My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

For inquiries email susannah@compactcaninerescue.org Fee: $600 Location: Norfolk, VA Romeo is new in rescue. He came to us as an owner surrender because they no longer had time for him and it was evident! He was starving and emaciated, almost to the point of death. If we had not taken him when we did, he could have died of starvation. He is currently on a refeeding program and thankfully improving. He is currently about 4 pounds but the vet said he should probably weigh about 10 pounds. Luckily, his blood work and physical exam showed he is an otherwise healthy dog. He was given a good prognosis with a complete recovery expected. Romeo will need a home that can provide him with a stable routine. He needs to know he will never be starved again. He is reported to only like older children. A fenced yard will make him happy! Apply now to make him your forever lovebug! Their adoption process

1.

Submit Application

After submission we check with the vet you referenced to obtain your pets medical history and the adopters compliance with recommendations

2.

Interview

Once you pass the vet. reference, we schedule an interview to find out more about you, the applicant, and the type of dog you want to adopt

3.

Home Check

If the phone interview is passed we then visit your home to see how one of our dogs reacts to the family, other pets and the environment.

4.

Approve Application

We have a committee to whom the applications are presented. They read over the entire packet and either approve or deny the app

5.

Meet the Pet

Once an adopter is approved they can call the foster parents and find out more about our dogs. If they match we set up a Meeting

6.

Sign Adoption Contract

More about this rescue

The founding members of our rescue are dog lovers. Especially, small dogs! When we saw the need to help so many small dogs of various breeds and mixes, we collaborated to form a non-breed-specific rescue to help as many small dogs as possible. Our mission is to help dogs who weigh up to 20 pounds.

Adoption is not first come first served. We match our dogs to potential owners to ensure the best outcomes for all involved! Our philosophy is: Rescue - Rehabilitate - Rejoice!

Our mission statement is as follows:
Compact Canine Rescue is a network of volunteers committed to rehabilitating small dogs and rehoming them with forever families on the east coast of the United States. We are passionate about promoting responsible pet parenting and educating the public on what makes dogs healthy and happy.
