Just like your favorite candy, Cornifer has a bit of a harder shell and a sweet inside. This shy girl takes a while to feel safe enough to warm up to a new environment, but when she does it is all fast tappy legs and a waggy tail. She seems quite food motivated, which would indicate easy training once you have gained her trust. During her first couple of days she will likely stay in her kennel unless it is time to eat or go out to go potty — she certainly prefers to go outside if she has access to the outdoors, but has had a couple of accidents when she has not been able to get outside. However, she did whine beforehand, so she does show great potty training signals. Cornifer currently lives with a barely two-year-old human foster brother and a thirteen-month-old high-energy dog foster brother, and while she does fine with them and has shown zero signs of aggression, they do seem to overwhelm her sometimes (the toddler especially), and she will take refuge in her kennel or under furniture. Because of this, her perfect home would likely be one with a calmer, confident adult dog and no children or older children who are able to be more patient while forming a trusting bond. Though if she can come out of her shell as much as she has while in her loud and energetic foster home, with enough time she will likely be able to adapt well to any loving home environment.

More about this shelter
Soul Dog is a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit animal rescue organization founded with the mission to spay/neuter and protect animals. We are currently a small group of committed volunteers making a difference in the life of one animal at a time. As an all volunteer administration, all donations made to Soul Dog go directly to improving the health of the pets that share our lives.
Soul Dog is proactive in animal welfare advancing the need for spaying and neutering our pets to reduce overpopulation. We travel to rural communities on Native American reservations, where spaying and neutering will only happen if it is nearly free or very convenient. Soul Dog works with volunteer veterinarians to provide the spaying and neutering service at no cost to the public. Donations are used to defray the costs associated with medications, supplies, and the operating cost for clinics.
