My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

How this pet arrived:
Star was brought in by a community member.

Why Star might be the one for you:
This big beautiful black and white dog needs time, space and love. She also needs more training using positive reinforcement techniques (which we can show you), confidence that she is doing what you want her to do because she wants to please her people (we can help you with that) and consistent routines. If you have a big space for her to guard, she will be happy. If she has a lot of toys around, don't be surprised if she rounds them all up into one pile. She may do the same with your socks too. To her rounding things up is a job and she wants to work. Star will be affectionate with her family and protective of them. Not so much with strangers. She is whip smart, If you show her what you want her to do, she'll catch on quickly. She will thrive when she is helping you do something. Are you looking for a smart, protector dog for your place and family? She will be happiest when she has work to do and gets lots of "good Star" accolades for doing it. If you'd like to learn more about this worker bee dog, come visit us at the San Diego Campus today!

At SDHS:
Star has been vaccinated, microchipped and spayed neutered. Star is now ready for their new home!

More about this shelter

San Diego Humane Society, an open-admission shelter, is creating a more humane world by inspiring compassion and advancing the welfare of animals and people. Our lifesaving safety net has helped San Diego become the largest city in the U.S. to keep healthy and treatable shelter animals from being euthanized. We are a private, independent, nonprofit organization that is not affiliated with any other humane society or society for the prevention of cruelty to animals.

With campuses in El Cajon, Escondido, Oceanside, Ramona and San Diego, we provide animal services for 14 cities within San Diego County. We not only care for 50,000 animals in our communities but also share the expertise we have gained through our innovative programs with shelters nationwide so they can save more lives in their communities.

While our influence is expanding nationally, our top priority is meeting the needs of San Diego. We provide exceptional care for all animals through world-class veterinary medicine, shelter and most of all: love.
