OK, let's just be honest with our precious stumpy Walter! He's unique and perhaps a bit awkward with his short nubby legs, big ears and pudgy body. Yes, he's a bit wonky and guess what it works for him! Butt don't think about saying no thank you until we introduce Walter and you join the Walter Fan Club!
First, we need to point out that what Walter lacks in height, Walter more than makes up for in personality. He is a very outgoing friendly guy who always has a smile to not only brighten your day but make you laugh! Foster Mom refers to Walter as a “spicy nugget”. Lots of excitement and energy in a smaller package. Weighing in at 36 lbs , he has a longer body with short legs and huge ears so maybe a terrier with some Corgi or Basset? We really don't know so we're saying uniquely adorable! Whatever mix he is , it’s made up of mostly fun! So go ahead laugh at him and fall in love....he says yes please to any and all attention and just keeps on smiling!
Walter reminds us of a cartoon character as he is an eternally happy character who loves people and dogs of all sizes. He has plenty of energy to play with the big dogs, and will run with the Huskies in his foster home. In his down time Walter enjoys warming your lap and giving kisses and no one can say to that nugget! The big little man would do best with another canine companion to keep him company. Big or small, he likes them all, but they should be fairly active , and share his love of a friendly wrestling match. No cats please!
Walter has some great qualities . He is housebroken, kennel trained, and walks well on leash. He is not destructive in the home , and does well free roaming. He will hang out in his kennel when left home alone, but the rest of the time he is out and about.
In his previous home Walter was struck by a car and did not receive medical treatment. As a result of this, he has some nerve damage to the right rear leg. Walter is not in any pain and gets around fine and is able to navigate stairs, run, jump, and play without issues. Due to the nerve damage higher up in the leg, Walter’s rear leg is somewhat stiff, and his toes fold under on that foot. He has been evaluated by our vet, and determined at this time no further treatment is necessary. We are working on getting him used to wearing a boot to protect the foot. Our vet recommends monitoring Walter to see how he gets along. We don’t know for sure if there will be any improvement with the nerve damage. If there is no improvement and further damage occurs to the foot, amputation of the leg would be a possibility and should be known in the next 9 months. This is something we would be pay for at our vets, if it is still due to his old injury.
For now, Walter is healthy, happy, and enjoying life just as he is. As we said he's a unique little guy and he is looking for people to accept that quality. He's a gem reminds us that life can be good with with some impairments in every smile he brings! If you'd like to meet Walter, please fill out an adoption application at www.HavenAnimalRescueNebraska.org. This must be done as a first step in meeting him with his amazing personality!

We do not have a facility. All of our animals are in volunteer foster homes. At that time we are happy to answer all of your questions. No inquiries prior to that please. All of our animals are spayed/neutered, examined by a vet, up-to-date on vaccinations, on heartworm and flea/tick preventatives, and microchipped.
