My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Remi came in as a stray on 11/6 and has been a consistently easy, sweet presence for staff and volunteers. She is easy to leash, walks calmly to and from the yard, and has no issues passing other dogs in the kennel or yard. Remi seeks out affection, sits politely for treats, and is calm and loving once outside. She interacted appropriately with a dog in the neighboring yard and showed no reactivity, remaining relaxed and focused on her handler.

When it comes to other dogs, Remi prefers a small, low-drama social circle. She can be playful but does best without chaotic group dynamics, as she is conflict-averse and appreciates calm interactions. Remi is currently heartworm positive, but treatment is already underway and being managed. She would benefit greatly from a foster or rescue placement where she can continue treatment in a quiet, stable environment while enjoying the companionship and consistency she clearly thrives on.

More about this shelter

Marion County Animal Services is the largest animal shelter in our county. Operating as a no-kill shelter, our kennels are almost always full. We provide adoption, fostering opportunities, work with rescues, accept volunteers and provide the training for veterinary assisting students. In addition, we run the Neuter Commuter and provide all animal control services in Marion County.
Due to the sheer volume of animals in our care, we need lots of help from our community in our effort to adopt out more and save more!
We don't only accept the ideal animals into our shelter. We can offer you quite the array of animal breeds and personalites! Keep an open mind when visiting our shelter- you may find that your perfect match is not at all what you set out to find.
We're here to help you as well as our homeless and lovable animals.
