Cheesecake is a very shy, easily intimidated one-year-old cat who spent most of her life outdoors. Because she doesn’t have much experience with people, she struggles with human interaction and prefers to keep her distance. For this reason, Cheesecake would make an excellent barn cat, where she can live a more independent lifestyle while still having a safe place to call home. Cheesecake is spayed and fully up to date on all her vaccines, so she’s ready to settle into her new barn placement right away. Even though she may not seek out affection, she still deserves a loving home where she can live comfortably and safely. We are the Jefferson County Humane Society and , except for our humane officers (who are paid very nominally), we are all volunteers! Our members were instrumental in getting a local levy passed to build a new and larger shelter and the doors opened in 2011. We are currently participating in Iams Home for the Holidays Program and the Purina Pets for People grant program. We are actively pursuing other grants and recently have been asked by the county to partner with them in the operation of the new shelter. Since we are a humane society, our main focus is on getting animals spayed and neutered so there are no more homeless pets. To that end, we bring in a mobile animal surgical clinic who performs spays and neuters at a reduced rate. We are always looking for volunteers to help us in our efforts and, of course, for financial contributions (we are a non-profit, 501 (c)3) and pet adopters! Other items such as food, treats, pet carriers, cages, leashes, collars, food bowls, etc. are also ALWAYS welcomed and appreciated. Please contact us if you have an item to be donated or would like to volunteer with us to try to save some of these homeless, but very loveable, dogs!
