My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Currently located at our Owensboro, KY location

Meet Bernie!

Bernie is currently in a foster home and doing great! A meet and greet will be required for any potential adopters. Here’s what his foster family has to say:

Dog & Cat Friendly
• Good with cats and mostly ignores them
• Plays very well with the foster’s corgi, Knight
• Loves wrestling, chasing, and playing ball together
• Not yet tested with larger dogs

Kids
• Has not been around small children
• Very sweet demeanor, but can be a bit rough with his paws and may accidentally knock little ones over

Home Life & Training
• House trained (with a few accidents)
• Sometimes thinks the litter box area is for him too — foster is working on better potty signals
• Crate trained
• Does well on car rides
• Eats very fast and uses a slow feeder
• Drinks a lot of water and may need frequent potty breaks (sometimes within 30 minutes)

Smart & Food Motivated
• Knows sit and shake
• Almost has lay down mastered
• Working on wait/stay
• Very food motivated — peanut butter is his favorite

Personality
• Loves fetch and tug
• Big fan of cuddling on the couch
• Loves pup cups
• Overall, Bernie is a big sweetheart with a cuddly, loving personality

If you’re interested in Bernie and would like to set up a meet and greet, please reach out to the rescue.

All of our dogs are examined by a veterinarian, given age-appropriate vaccinations, dewormed, microchipped and spayed or neutered.

More about this shelter

It Takes A Village Rescue, Inc. is a non-kill 501(c)(3) rescue dedicated to doing what it takes to find loving homes for stray, abandoned, and surrendered animals, and to keep these animals safe and free from further suffering. Our mission is "To work as one in helping homeless animals irrespective of breed, location or circumstance." By working with committed volunteers, foster homes, veterinarians and partner rescues or shelters, we are able to rescue countless animals every year and provide them with loving temporary care as we work to find them well-matched forever homes. Although we do not discriminate based on breed, size or color, we have a particular interest in bully breeds, special medical needs, senior dogs, black dogs and other hard-to-place animals.
