My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi friends, I'm Stromboli, named after fiery Italian volcano, but I promise I’m more warm and snuggly than explosive!

I came to the shelter with my five sweet puppies, and now that they’ve grown big and strong, it’s my turn to find a forever home where I can just be a dog again. I recently spent a couple of weeks in a foster home, catching up on rest, treats and all the love I’d been too busy to enjoy while being a mom. My foster family said I’m “smart, playful, energetic and eager to please.”

In foster, I got to show off some of my best skills:

• Hiking buddy approved - I walk nicely on leash and love exploring the outdoors.
• House manners on point - I learned how to use the doggie door and be respectful of the furniture.
• Toy enthusiast - balls, squeakies, plushies … if it’s a toy, it’s my favorite.
• Friendly playmate - I got along well with the resident dog.

I’ve been through a lot in a short amount of time, so I appreciate a little patience as I continue settling into the good life. A meet-and-greet with any doggos you have at home is a good idea, just to make sure we all feel comfortable and get off on the right paw.

If you’re looking for a fun-loving, people-pleasing gal, I just might be your perfect match. Come meet me - I’m ready to start my happily ever after with you!

More about this shelter

Founded in 1965, Animal Humane New Mexico is the state’s leading private 501(c)(3) nonprofit animal welfare organization serving more than 10,000 homeless and at-risk dogs & cats each year. We never euthanize based on age or length of stay and since 2010, have re-homed 100% of healthy pets in our care. We support every companion animal at Animal Humane with outstanding veterinary, social and emotional care, and love.

As a private nonprofit shelter, we receive no city, state or federal funding; each dollar judiciously spent is earned or raised.
