My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Daffodil, a gentle, sweet-natured girl with a heart as bright as her name!
Daffodil came to us after surviving serious injuries that led to the amputation of one of her back legs. She faced this life-changing moment with quiet bravery and grace—and has been thriving ever since. Now a proud tripod, Daffodil has adjusted beautifully and doesn’t let her missing leg slow her down in the slightest.

She’s the perfect mix of sweet and silly, smart and curious. Daffodil loves toys, fetch, water, and a good game of tug-of-war, but her absolute happy place is running and playing with her dog friends. In fact, losing a leg seems to have made her lighter and more aerodynamic—she can outrun and outjump even the most athletic four-legged pups! When playtime is over, she’s just as content curling up for a cozy nap, often alongside her feline friends.

Daffodil can be a bit shy when meeting new people, but with the encouragement of her canine buddies in her foster home, her confidence has grown by leaps and bounds. A home with a dog friend to show her the ropes would be ideal. She’s proven herself incredibly brave—even in the face of vacuum cleaners and toenail clippers—and she’s ready to bring that same courage to meeting her forever family.

If you’re looking for a resilient, loving companion who will fill your home with joy, Daffodil can’t wait to meet you.

More about this shelter

The Humane Society of North Central Florida was created in 2018 when the leadership of the Alachua County Humane Society, Gainesville Pet Rescue, and Helping Hands Pet Rescue decided to permanently join forces. By becoming the Humane Society of North Central Florida, our organizations were able to effectively streamline services for pets and pet owners, eliminate any duplication of services, maximize our community’s resources, and improve the life-saving abilities of the entire region.

Our founding organizations have been dedicated to serving pets in Alachua County for more than 40 years. The Humane Society of North Central Florida is a limited intake, no-kill animal rescue shelter. The animals in our facility are transferred from open-intake and/or managed admission municipal shelters across North Central Florida. The Humane Society of North Central Florida is an independent, local 501(c)(3) organization. As such, we do not receive funding from federal agencies, nor are we affiliated with any other state or national organizations such as the Humane Society of the United States or the ASPCA.
