My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Butterbean!

Butterbean was surrendered by her family because she unfortunately was not getting along with the family's more newly acquired dog. So at 10 years old, this sweet senior is once again searching for a new home where she can have the sense of security she so greatly deserves.

Thankfully, Butterbean is so easy to fall in love with! Shortly after her arrival to us we discovered that Butterbean has hyperthyroidism, a very common and easily managed condition in older cats. She has no complaints when it comes to her daily medication, however, since she takes them in her favorite treats. We've also been feeding her a wet food only diet since the dry can be a bit taxing on her delicate system.

Butterbean is very mellow and loves her peace, but since going into foster has rediscovered her love for playtime. So if she can't be found napping in one of the many plush beds her foster mom has provided for her, she is tearing around the house with some of her favorite toys.

Butterbean's ideal home would be one with a calmer environment, and where she can truly be the center of attention (as other animals are just not her cup to tea!). We will include just a few photos here, but for anyone interested in seeing more, please feel free to head over to @kingleopold2023 on Instagram.

More about this shelter

Ramapo-Bergen Animal Refuge, Inc. is founded on the belief that all animals have a natural right to humane treatment including proper care and safe shelter. Due to overpopulation, there are insufficient homes for most cats and dogs. Some are lucky enough to find temporary shelter and a few even find permanent homes. However it is a devastating fact that the majority are either euthanized or forced to chance life without shelter.

To support our belief and to relieve the unnecessary suffering of animals, we shall:
1.Extend every effort to find, evaluate, and secure good adoptive homes for animals in our care.
2.Provide animals with medical services and behavior therapy to the extent of our ability.
3.Adhere to a “no-kill” policy: animals shall not be euthanized for the purpose of providing space for new animals.
4.Adhere to a 100% spay and neuter policy.
5.Maintain continuing humane education programs and in particular to schools.
