Big Ben’s story is so heartbreaking. This handsome, strong boy was originally adopted from one of the shelters in Philadelphia, only to endure an awful journey because of their lack of proper screening. Passed from one relative to another, Ben was used solely as a “mouse catcher,” cleaning up homes before being sent to the next. When he was no longer useful, he was abandoned on the streets.
When we rescued him, we traced his microchip back to his original adopter and every person who’d had him along the way. Tragically, not a single one cared about his well-being or wanted to take him back.
Despite everything, Big Ben has remained a gentle and kind soul. When he first came to us, he was scared and shut down, spending weeks in hiding. But with time, love, and patience, Ben has blossomed. He is sooooo friendly and loves the simple pleasures of life: a warm bed, regular meals (instead of hunting mice), and kind human companionship.
Big Ben is incredibly easygoing and low maintenance. He loves nothing more than lounging in a cozy spot and being part of a quiet, loving home. While he doesn’t love other adult cats, he tolerates them and has done surprisingly well with kittens.
