Walnut and Cashew are affectionate boys looking for their forever home! These sweet friends have had quite the journey, and their bond is as heartwarming as their purrs.
Walnut was rescued with a broken leg and came to Pet Haven for the care he needed. After a few weeks of rest, pain meds, and cast changes, he’s back to full speed and is a playful, happy kitten who loves to zoom around and make friends.
Not long after, Cashew was found and treated for a tail injury that required a partial amputation. He’s fully healed now, sporting an adorable little stub that only adds to his charm! When Walnut and Cashew finally met, they became instant best friends and were snuggling together within minutes.
Walnut is a sweet, curious, and playful boy who loves other kittens and enjoys curling up next to his people when it’s time to rest. Cashew is the little gentleman of the pair and he is gentle, affectionate, and always ready for snuggles. He purrs like crazy and soaks up every bit of love he can get.
Both boys have medium energy levels and love playtime but are just as happy to relax with you afterward. They’re currently living in a busy foster home with several other cats and people and have done wonderfully. While they haven’t met children or dogs yet, they’d likely adjust well with proper introductions.
Walnut is still learning a few manners around mealtime (he can get a bit protective of his food when other cats are nearby), but he’s making great progress and is never anything but sweet with his people.
Walnut and Cashew would thrive in almost any home — especially one where there’s plenty of love, attention, and snuggle time to go around. If you’re looking for a pair of affectionate, resilient, and endlessly loving kittens, these two are the perfect match!

All cats have received comprehensive veterinary care and tested negative for feline leukemia and FIV unless otherwise stated. Cats are up-to-date on age-appropriate vaccinations and have been spayed/neutered, treated for fleas and/or ear mites, de-wormed, and microchipped. Please note there may be additional follow up visits and boosters that are not covered by Pet Haven after adoption.

Our animals live with foster families until they are placed in permanent homes and their foster families get to know the dogs and cats learning important information about the animals. For example, the foster family will know if the dog or cat is good with other animals or children, and will have a good idea of what kind of training, attention, and special needs the pet may require. This makes our foster families great resources for potential adopters!

What We Do
We help dogs and cats find homes with loving families through foster-based care. Every dog and cat lives with a foster family until they find their forever families. We provide all of their basic needs including proper food, veterinary care, behavior training, and supplies.
Through in-home fostering, we learn about each animal’s temperament, personality, likes/dislikes, and any medical needs. With this first-hand information, we can then find the right family for each dog and cat.
Our volunteers also educate the public on responsible companion animal care and represent respect for animals at all times. Whether we’re working with prospective new families, meeting people at public events, or socializing with friends and family, we encourage others to view and treat their pets as members of the family. We are their guardians, and they depend on us for companionship and care.
We spay/neuter prior to adoption.
We microchip all our Pet Haven Pets and remain as a secondary contact.
We make sure all pets are up to date on required vaccinations
We test for Heartworm and Lymes in all our dogs and are transparent in the results and treament
We test for FeLV/FIV and are transparent in the results. We believe that cats who test positive still deserve a chance at a quality home.
We do not euthanize animals unless they have untreatable health or behavioral conditions that deny them an acceptable quality of life or makes them a serious threat to people, other animals, or themselves.
How We Operate
We rely on adoption fees, tax-deductible donations, grants, and special events to keep our rescue operating. Our staff, Board of Directors, and volunteers have provided the passion and commitment to keep Pet Haven a safe haven for animals for almost 70 years.
We are committed to preventing pet homelessness through the SNIP Grant. Since 2005, we have granted more than $240,000 to organizations in Minnesota to support spay/neuter initiatives.
