My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Baxter is an adorably scruffy 2-year-old, 32 lb terrier mix whose world revolves around his people and his toys. He’s goofy and affectionate, has never met a stranger, and greets everyone with full-body wiggles. Spunky, sweet, and endlessly lovable, Baxter is treat- and toy-motivated and can happily entertain himself for hours with his favorite toys.

His dream home includes a big yard where he can proudly carry toys back and forth (his favorite pastime) and humans who want an affectionate, playful companion. He’d likely love kids and thrives on attention and interaction. Baxter is still polishing his house manners and is eager to learn with continued structure and consistency.

Baxter can be selective with other dogs and would do best as an only dog or with slow, structured introductions to a compatible playmate. He truly shines when he gets to be the center of his humans’ world.

At a perfect 32 pounds and looking like a real-life teddy bear, Baxter has a whole lot of love to give. Fill out an application to meet Baxter today!

More about this rescue

The Street Dog Project is comprised of a small group of volunteers who are passionate about saving street dogs in Dallas, TX. The majority of our team was previously heavily involved at another local street dog rescue but left for various reasons over the years. We wanted to save more lives so "got the band back together". We are an experienced team of rescuers, operating under a new name.

We have a lot of experience capturing elusive street dogs and helping them adjust to life in a loving home.

The dogs are taken to the vet upon rescue so they can be examined, dewormed, vaccinated, spayed/neutered, heartworm tested (and treated if positive) and attend to any other medical needs. Life on the streets is tough so a lot of the dogs we take in have beyond basic medical needs. Heartworm, mange, leg and eye injuries are some of the most common medical conditions we encounter.
We are an all-volunteer organization and rely on donations to save lives. Donations can be made by clicking the "donate now" button on our Facebook page or visiting www.thestreetdogproject.org. Thanks for your support!
