My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Duchess ACCT-A-237330 is a 4-year-old female who was brought in by APOs as a stray on 11/15. APOs noted that “when we approached, the dog was sitting calmly on the porch with the caller. When I approached, she began barking and backing away from me. The caller leashed her and lifted her into the truck. Caller stated that she had seen the dog running loose a handful of times in the area. Dog seemed wary of everyone but the caller. At one point, her children came to the door and seemed to call the dog’s name to try to calm it.”

Medical:

On 11/20, Duchess was exposed to a dog that tested positive for parvovirus, and a titer test was given to see if she has any antibodies. No antibodies were found, so Duchess is at a higher risk of infection for parvovirus and would benefit from leaving the shelter environment as soon as possible.

Per intake exam on 11/17:

“- unable to age due to fearful behavior

- female

- dandruff

- normal gait

Behavior- high FAS, whale eye, tail tucked, avoidant”

Behavioral:

Per staff on 11/19:

“Laying on the bed, eyes soft, eager to take treats, gently. Stayed on bed”

Per staff on 11/17:

“Kennel Presentation: laying on bed when i approached. Wide eyes, ears forward and closed mouth barking/growling. Tossed treats in and she ate them.

Leash Skills: treat lure into leash loop to leash. She was low growling but still eating treats. Had the leash loop slightly touching the ground with treats on the other side so that she would have to put her head through the loop. Once leashed she walked out slowly and cautiously through the kennels.

Sociability: asocial. Stiff and still with wide eyes and tight mouth when lightly touched on the side. Attempted to look in her ear and she snarled with a low growl. Takes treats nicely and is highly food motivated.

Play: n/a

Dog Interaction: n/a

Return to Kennel: had leash already clipped, needed slight leash pressure to go back into kennel l.”

Per staff on 11/17:

“During my morning walk through today, she was laying on the bed. Ears forward with wide eyes. I tossed a few treats and she ate them. Body was neutral while laying on the bed and she was sniffing towards me.”

Per staff on 11/16:

“When I approached the kennel she was laying on the bed. I tossed a few treats in and on the bed and she ate them. When I got a little closer to the door her eyes were wide and she began to low growl at me. I did open the door and continue tossing treats to her. She was avoidant and would not look at me. I kept my body to the side with slow movements. I brought my leash up to the kennel and she had pressed lips and growling at me. Just worked on showing her the leash and treating then moved up to having the loop wide on the ground with treats in it. After a few reps I was able to leash her, she laid down on the bed with ears all the way back. Tossed a few more treats and I was able to use very light leash pressure to help her come out of the kennel. She was hyper vigilant walking through the kennels, tail down but not tucked. It was extremely windy outside and she just stood in the x pen with tail tucked. I was able to clip the leash and she went right into the kennel.”

Per staff on 11/16:

“stiff body whale eyed hard barking when approached kennel revealing my leash.”
