My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Sweet William, a gentle 4-year-old FIV-positive cat with a love for belly rubs. This shy, sweet soul enjoys quiet moments and would thrive in a calm, loving home. Sweet William, having lived as a stray, cherishes every bit of affection and patiently waits for a family to call his own. His tender nature makes him an ideal companion for someone who appreciates the sweet, quieter moments of life. Adopt Sweet William and discover the joy of giving a forever home to a cat who truly deserves one.

Sweet William is FIV+. If you don't know what FIV is, it stands for feline immunodeficiency virus and typically causes a weakening of the cat’s immune system... only cats can get FIV, people and dogs cannot.

The most common route of infection is a deep bite wound from an FIV+ cat to another cat... they can live with other non FIV + cats- sharing food/litter/water without transmitting the disease onto other cats.

FIV  isn't a big deal... unfortunately many FIV+ cats are overlooked in shelters because people see this and think it's a terrible disease and the cats won't live long... However FIV+ cats can live long healthy lives just like other cats! There is no medication to treat an FIV+ positive cat.

Sweet William is also part of the Take A Chance On Me Program. This means his adoption fee has been reduced  for the right home.

If you are interested in adopting, applications can be found on our website www.ahimsahaven.org.

Meet and greets are with an approved application by appointment only.

As always, cats that are ready to be adopted are spayed/neutered, have age appropriate shots, are micro-chipped, dewormed/deflead, and FEL/FIV tested.

Additional adoption info

Our animal listings are updated daily to reflect any adoptions, sometimes even minutes after the adoption. Should you see an animal you are interested in please visit our website (ahimsahaven.org) to fill out an Adoption Application.

As we are an all volunteer organization, we are not able to answer phone/email inquiries about specific cats until your application has been submitted and approved.

Current fees can be found on our website at ahimsahaven.org

Some animals are part of our Take A Chance On Me program and have a small adoption fee. You can see which ones on our website's "Take A Chance On Me" page.

Our adoption fees include spay or neuter, vaccinations. Ahimsa Haven Animal Rescue is a nonprofit organization, so your donations are tax deductible. Our adoption policies are as follows: We require a signed adoption contract, and payment of adoption fee prior to placement. Fee is refundable if the animal is returned within 30 days. We require that the animal be returned to our care, in the event the placement does not work out even if that is many years in the future.

More about this rescue

Ahimsa Haven was incorporated in 1999 as a nonprofit animal rescue group. Our mission is to find good homes for abandoned, homeless and unwanted domestic animals.

Ahimsa is a term from an eastern religion that means "To do no harm, in thought or deed, to any living creature". Every penny we raise goes to the animals - no one gets a salary!
