Meet Pickles — The Playful, Smart, 12-Pound Goofball You Didn’t Know You Needed!
If you’ve been craving a dog who’s equal parts fun, snuggly, smart, and delightfully mischievous… congratulations — you’ve just found your guy.
Pickles, a 1–2-year-old terrier mix weighing in at a perfect 12 pounds, may be small, but this boy has more personality than a whole jar of his namesake. Found on the streets of San Antonio, he’s traded pavement for playtime and is now ready to relish life with a family of his very own.
Pickles is playful, gentle, and highly intelligent — the kind of dog who picks up on routines, learns quickly, and always tries to figure out what his humans want from him. (Treats. You want to give him treats. That’s the correct answer.)
This boy LOVES his toys:
- A good game of fetch? Yes sir.
- Tug o’ war? Absolutely.
- Wubba toys? His soulmate.
But after playtime, Pickles is totally down for a solid cuddle—and he gives the warmest, floppiest snuggles known to mankind. A family who enjoys playing and relaxing will suit him perfectly.
He’s a big fan of:
- Belly rubs
- Butt scratches
- Gentle ear massages
- Being told he’s a very good boy (because he absolutely is)
He’s great with other dogs and critters, though he does enjoy a joyfully enthusiastic cat chase here and there—nothing serious, just a flirtatious little “Hey cat friend, run so I can follow you!” kind of vibe.

Hay Dude Equine Rescue, in Boerne, TX, does not have a shelter - ALL of our dogs, are raised in foster homes in the San Antonio area. Each pup comes spayed or neutered, up-to-date on vaccinations that are appropriate for their age, microchipped, heartworm tested and on current on monthly flea/tick and heartworm preventative.
