ARKANSAS / MALE / APPROX. DOB APRIL 1st/24
Currently being fostered in Ottawa, ON
Meet Arkansas – A Gentle Soul Ready for His First Real Home
At just 1.5 years old, Arkansas has spent his entire life in a shelter on the northern side of St. Lucia with his mom and littermates — never knowing what a true home or family feels like. While his siblings tend to be more outgoing, Arkansas is a quiet observer. He takes his time warming up to new people, but once he trusts you, his affection is deep, steady, and incredibly rewarding.
Arkansas' foster family describes him as calm and soulful — a little unsure at first with new faces, but quick to warm up in the most beautiful way. Once he relaxes, his playful, slightly clumsy side comes out, and watching him run is pure joy. Think Tigger: bouncy, light, and guaranteed to make you smile.
Despite growing up in a shelter, Arkansas is already showing impressive house manners. He hasn’t had a single accident since arriving in foster care and responds wonderfully to gentle guidance. He has great leash manners, is curious and respectful when meeting other dogs, and has settled easily into a home routine. Cozy naps, quiet companionship, and peaceful moments are his specialties.
Arkansas does very well with older children. He’s still learning about cats but approaches them with gentleness and respect. With other dogs, he’s consistently friendly, calm, and polite.
Arkansas is looking for a home that understands gentle souls like his — a place with kindness, patience, and space for him to blossom. A friendly resident dog would be a wonderful bonus friend for him! In return, he will be a deeply devoted companion, ready and waiting to be right by your side.

When animals in our care at HelpAWS become eligible for adoption, interested parties can apply for a specific animal or for a litter in general by completing the online application,
located at www.helpaws.com/adopt/. Applications are processed by our Adoptions Team, and phone interviews are scheduled with each applicant. The interview is approximately one (1) hour long. After the interview, the Adoptions Team will request photos of the applicant’s home and yard and, if applicable, will conduct a veterinarian check (for applicants with other pets) and/or two (2) reference checks from the list provided by the applicant. Once all phone interviews have been completed and photos reviewed, the Adoptions Team will either approve or deny the applicant. Approvals will be matched with a specific animal based on their lifestyle and the animal’s personality/needs and will be informed via a group chat on Facebook Messenger. The applicant will then receive a follow up email with the relevant adoption details, including the Adoption Agreement, payment expectations and flight info. The animal will then be flown to his/her appropriate destination and transferred into the care of his/her new owner(s).
