My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.

NAAN hails from the Northern community of Pikagikum and came south with her sister, Pita, to find her forever home. She’s received her first 2 vaccines, a microchip, dewormer and has been deemed a healthy girl by her vet. She was part of a litter of 8 puppies but this rescue only received 2 of them. She did come into the Northern Network with her mum who looked to be a Black Lab mix of around 55/60lbs but we have no information on her dad. She’s an active little lady who loves to run around and play with her sister and also chew on her many teething toys. She’s quite shy when you first meet her but once she gains your trust she’ll turn into your best friend and be a shadow who follows you around everywhere. She is adventurous and loves to investigate new things she finds in her environment.

NAAN is crate trained and sleeps quietly in it at night and will nap in it during the day too. House training is still a work in progress and she will go on a pee pad in the home if she isn’t taken outside quickly enough. She’s just started to go on walks and like all puppies she’ll try and race ahead of you. She’s now learning that she can go to the bathroom while outside on her walks too. Walking sometimes can be a bit slow as she loves to pick up sticks and chew on them along the way. She does eat her food very quickly so is currently using a slow feeder and it is recommended that she continue to use one until she slows down with her eating. She does have good manners and will sit for her meals and also take her treats “gentle.”

NAAN’s ideal family would be an active one that loves to go on hikes and walks in the woods. She does well in a vehicle so will always be up for a drive and especially if it leads to an adventure for her. She’ll do well in a home with other dogs as she’s fostered with several of them and she loves to socialize with them too.  Seeing as she’s never met a cat and if one is in her adoptive home we strongly recommend a slow and monitored introduction while she’s leashed for the first few times they meet up or interact. She should do well as an only pet in the home provided she’s not left alone for long periods of time every day. Children should be aged 6yrs and up plus be loving and gentle towards animals. She does require a fenced-in yard so she can be kept safe while she has a run around and play.

Puppies are cute, playful and fun but also require a lot of time, patience and dedication to training. We do need her adopter to be in agreement to take her for puppy/obedience training to help her to become the best girl possible. Her spay is included in her adoption fee and her potential adopter must be in agreement to have her spayed by the time she’s 6 months of age. The surgery will be at the Barrie SPCA but you can use your own vet and we’ll reimburse you what we would’ve paid for it there. In order for the rescue to do so we need the spay requirements to still be followed plus a copy of the procedure invoice and a picture of her (preferably in her onsie or cone) in order to do the reimbursement. We do post the picture on our fb page along with other pets that were “fixed” in the same week.
If NAAN sounds like she’ll suit your family and lifestyle then please submit an adoption application to meet her.

Additional adoption info

Dogs: $750 (as of March 2024)
Cats: $250
The adoption process involves a brief application for the pet you are interested in. We will review your application and if you appear to be a good match for the pet, we will contact you for a phone interview. If that is successful we then do a vet reference check. If all goes well we will then set up a meet and greet for you and anyone else living in the home including any resident dogs with the pet. We then ask you to go home and contemplate your decision on adopting the pet and let us know your decision within 24hrs of meeting the pet. If applicable we will then move forward with the adoption at a mutually agreed upon time.

Go meet their pets

We only set up meet and greets with our animals once an adoption application has been submitted. We do occasionally have meet and greets with our animals at Global Pet Foods in the Barrie area.

You can check out the available pets on our rescuegroups website or on our rescue Facebook page.

More about this rescue

We’re a small rescue with a big mission to save animals in our Northern communities, local Pounds and owner surrenders (under certain circumstances.) We’re located in Barrie, Ontario and we serve the area of Simcoe County and within a two hour radius of the Barrie area.
Our intakes are placed in loving foster homes until they’re assessed, vetted including vaccines, microchip and a spay/neuter (if over 6 months of age) before they leave the rescue to be adopted. Female puppies are spayed at 6 months of age and males 8 months of age.)
We’re always looking for additional foster homes as we can only do intakes if we have foster homes for them to go into.
