Sonny is a big-hearted, beautifully social pittie who would love to be part of a loving, stable family. After being unexpectedly abandoned, Sonny never lost his gentle spirit. He has remained incredibly affectionate, people-oriented, playful, dog-friendly, and eager to connect with everyone he meets. Sonny is fun loving and will keep you laughing with the games he entices you to play.
Sweet, affectionate, and loyal — he bonds deeply and loves being part of the family routine.
Very social — enjoys meeting new people and plays nicely with other dogs.
Smart and responsive — Sonny communicates well, follows directions, and loves learning.
Sensitive and intuitive — he feels his people’s emotions and thrives with reassurance and consistency.
Because he is so connected to humans, Sonny can get anxious when he’s unsure or alone. To help him thrive, Sonny is currently completing a highly regarded Board & Train program where he’s learning confidence-building skills in a fear-free, science-based environment.
Sonny Is Special
Sonny is one of those once-in-a-lifetime dogs—bright, resilient, and overflowing with love. He has won the hearts of everyone who has cared for him, from volunteers to day care staff to visitors. He greets each new person with joy and has made more friends than we can count.
He deserves his own forever family, one who will cherish him and recognize that being loved by Sonny is one of the best parts of their life, and someone who will love him as fully in return.
If you are interested in making Sonny a member of your family, please contact Marney at marney.b@poainc.org .

We do have a screening and application process. Protectors of Animals requires a veterinarian check before any adoption.
One of our experienced Placement Team members will meet with you and show you the cat, kitten or dog you are interested in, or will guide you towards cats, kittens or dogs that are appropriate for your home environment. We will discuss with you the background of the cat, kitten or dog and what special needs or requirements he or she may have. We will happily take the time to carefully answer any questions you have or discuss any concerns.
POA does not charge an adoption “fee.” It costs POA anywhere from $100 and $400, or more, per dog or cat or kitten to make them well and prepare them for adoption. We are an all-donation organization and we rely on adoption donations to help us continue our work. When you adopt a cat or dog, we will ask for a donation. Our adoption donation information can be found at our website at www.poainc.org.

More about this rescue
We are a NO-Kill rescue and shelter for cats and dogs.
POA was formed in 1975 to rescue abandoned, abused and stray cats and dogs. Today we are one of the oldest and most respected animal welfare organizations in the northeast. POA is here to stay! You will not find a more dedicated, experienced or thorough resource for improving the lives of Connecticut cats and dogs. We confine our focus to our home state because this is where our infrastructure and resources reside, as well as our leadership.
