Delilah is a super cute and extra friendly pup even though she was found as a stray. Delilah is a hound mix and will be in the large size range (50+pounds) when fully grown. At eight months she weighs 52 pounds. She has a medium length black and white coat. Another plus: She is leash trained and loves to go on walks.
She was saved from a high kill shelter, which means someone recognized that she would make a wonderful family dog. Delilah is a good-natured pup who is comfortable with kids and dogs. She loves to be with people. It is not known if she has ever met a cat.
Hounds come in a variety of types. But their personalities can be similar as they are known to be inquisitive, friendly, and intelligent, as are labs. They are often lively dogs with plenty of energy, as well as being agile and of course, great
trackers when using their sense of smell.
As to training, it is best to do a refresher course with crate and house training. She will need the right guidance mixed with consistency, repetition, and patience. Cheerful praise and lots of treats will go a long way in helping her master those daily routines. Several daily short walks (30 minutes max) will reinforce her leash skills as well as socialization skills. It will be a new world to her with all the new sights, smells, sounds, and people along her walk. She cannot become a running companion until she is at least a year old. At that point her growth plate will close.
At home she will also benefit from mental stimulation in the form of activities and play toys. That will help keep her from being bored. A secure back yard will give her free time to play and burn off extra energy. Are you willing to take on the task of helping Delilah transition to a new life where she is loved by her family? If yes, read on.
