MEET "KOA" MARYLAND

LOCATION: MARYLAND

EMAIL: BigPawsK9FosterHouse@GMAIL.COM

AVAILABLE FOR: **COMING SOON** NOT QUITE READY FOR ADOPTION BUT WE ARE TAKING APPLICATIONS.

NAME: "KOA"

DOB: JUNE 2022

BREED: ANATOLIAN SHEPHERD X SPANISH MASTIFF

GENDER: MALE

SIZE: EXTRA LARGE

HEALTH: GOOD

GOOD WITH: OTHER DOGS, CATS

NOTES:

Koa is one of eleven dogs rescued from a heartbreaking case of abuse and neglect. His former owners now face multiple felony charges, and Koa came to us quite literally on the brink of death. But his incredible will to live carried him through—and today, he’s a strong, handsome boy who has overcome so much.

While his body has healed, some of the emotional scars remain. Koa is still learning to fully trust the world again, and his journey is very much ongoing. He has good days and harder days—sometimes one step forward, two steps back—but he never gives up, and he continues to find joy in life’s simple moments.

What Koa wants most is love. He absolutely melts under gentle affection and will steal your heart with his quiet resilience. He will do best in a calm home with little foot traffic and with someone patient enough to accept him exactly as he is while he continues to grow.

Koa is proof that even after unthinkable cruelty, healing and hope are possible.

More about this rescue

Our mission at Big Paws K9 Foster House is to establish a secure and nurturing haven for Anatolian Shepherds, Kangal, Great Pyrenees, Akbash and their mixes rescued from shelters, the streets, or unfortunate circumstances. Our dedicated team ensures a transitional environment either at the facility or within a foster home for these dogs until suitable forever homes can be identified for adoption. Throughout their stay with us, we prioritize the well-being of the dogs by affording them dedicated decompression time, compassionate care, and expert guidance. Our commitment extends to active engagement through structured work/play sessions, allowing us to comprehensively evaluate each dog's unique characteristics.
This thorough evaluation process enables us to provide detailed insights to our fosters, adopters, and our partnering rescue organizations. By offering a nuanced understanding of each dog's temperament, behavior, and needs, we aim to facilitate informed decision-making in placing these dogs into loving and appropriate homes.
Committed to education, we also promote spaying/neutering and work to make affordable vetting accessible within our community, championing responsible pet ownership for all.
