**Note: he is currently in Toronto waiting for his forever family.
Background
Taavi was one of 101 dogs rescued from the Siheung dog meat farm in Korea in May 2022, along with his siblings. After his rescue, he lived at our partner boarding house with other dogs until the fall of 2022, when he was adopted and moved to Toronto. Unfortunately, due to his adopter’s ongoing overseas surgeries, Taavi can no longer be cared for properly. Now, this sweet boy is once again waiting for a forever family — one who can commit to him and share their life with him.
Personality & Socialization
Taavi is a smart, independent dog with a medium energy level. He can be shy at first, but he does well with people who respect his space and boundaries. He’s not the overly affectionate or snuggly type, but that’s part of his charm — he’s chill, not needy or demanding, and content to just be near you.
With other dogs, Taavi really shines. He loves to run, play, and explore with canine friends, and his happiest moments are outdoors. He does especially well with dogs around his size who are friendly and not overly dominant. Having a playmate brings out his brightest, most joyful side.
Behaviours
Indoors, Taavi is quiet, independant, and well-mannered. He has no separation anxiety, is not destructive, and is content to relax and nap while you’re away. He rides well in the car, is cooperative at the vet, and is very food-motivated.
Taavi does best when people respect his boundaries. For example, he can become nervous if someone tries to grab him suddenly or put a harness on in an open space. However, when called into a quiet room and shown the harness, he is relaxed and has no issues at all. He doesn’t enjoy the rain, but he loves his walks and outdoor time.
Health & Diet
Taavi is healthy, neutered, and up to date on vaccinations. He takes monthly parasite preventatives and eats dry food twice a day. He has not shown any allergies.
Ideal Home
Taavi would thrive with an experienced adopter who understands rescue dogs and can communicate with patience and respect. An adult-only, quiet home with a fenced yard would be ideal, and he would be happiest with another dog of similar size to play with.
Raised for meat consumption in Korea, Taavi went through so much before he was rescued — experiences beyond our imagination and truly heartbreaking. Yet he survived and has come such a long way. Now, he deserves another chance at life, love, and family.
While Taavi is not the cuddly, snuggly type, he is a charming, smart, and independent boy who will be a loyal companion. What Taavi needs most is someone who can accept him for who he is, and who will stand by him through both the easy and the challenging moments. In return, you will have his unconditional love and loyalty.

Free Korean Dogs is a registered charity founded in 2015 with the mission to rescue, rehabilitate and find forever-loving homes for dogs saved from the Korean dog meat trade.
We divide our mission across three basic pillars: rescue, adopt, and engage. Since 2015, we’ve made huge advances in all three areas, shutting down three dog meat farm operations, facilitating the adoption of 1,800 rescue dogs, and launching Freedom Walk, our annual event to raise public awareness about the Korean dog meat trade:
RESCUE
Our organization has made significant strides in rescuing dogs from the dog meat trade, high-kill shelters and other high-risk conditions in Korea. We shut down dog meat farms and liberated over 500 dogs from unbearable suffering and despair.
ADOPT
Through our unwavering commitment, we have found forever-loving homes for more than 1,800 dogs rescued from brutal circumstances. Our dedicated team works tirelessly to rehabilitate these animals and find them a new life filled with love and care.
ENGAGE
Our mission extends beyond rescue and adoption; we are dedicated to building a compassionate community. Through educational campaigns and events, we engage with individuals and organizations to create a cultural shift from cruelty to compassion.
