Cind Lou is a sweet and affectionate 13 year old female cat. Her previous owners moved in to an assisted living situation where they could not take her with them. She was recently diagnosed with cancer (suspected lymphoma) in her abdomen but her weight remains stable. She is looking for a loving home for her final days. Here’s what her foster volunteer says about her:
How would you describe the cat's general personality?
Cindy Lou is a very sweet cat. She will always greet you at the door when you come back with a sweet meow. She loves being pet and will sit on your lap and snuggle with you. She loves meeting new people and is very affectionate with people she has just met. She loves head scratches and getting brushed. She will jump up with excitement when you come over with the brush!
Does the cat enjoy being pet?
Cindy Lou loves being pet. She definitely has her favorite spots to be pet, specifically on her head and under her chin. Occasionally, she doesn’t want to be pet and wants to relax by herself. If this is the case, she will let you know for sure.
If yes, on what parts of its body does the cat like to be pet?
Cindy Lou loves being pet the most around her head the most.
Are there any parts of its body that the cat does NOT like being touched?
She dislikes being touched on her paws the least, but sometimes when she is napping, she will reach out her paws to you so you can hold them. She loves falling asleep knowing that you are there with her.
Does the cat come on your lap?
Yes! Cindy Lou loves to relax and purr on my lap. She climbs onto my lap when I am sitting in the chair or the couch. She also loves to climb on you in bed while you are sleeping. She will fall asleep with you on your stomach or curled up right next to you.
Does the cat like to be held?
She generally does not like to be held, and she will be very vocal about it if she does not want to be held. She doesn't mind being picked up, but she does not like being held for longer than needed.
Does the cat sleep in your bed?
Yes, she does. Cindy Lou loves to sleep on the bed with me every night. She likes to nestle in between my legs or climb on top of my stomach and lie there. She will sleep in bed with you every night. She loves to have her own throw pillow to sleep on. She has taken over my bed while I am away at work.
Does the cat seek your attention?
Cindy Lou does seek attention. She loves to greet me when I come back home from work, and I always find her waiting for me in front of the door mat. She will also seek attention when she wants to play or is hungry for food.
Does the cat like to play?
She is quite a mellow cat, since she is older, so she is very content to play with her food puzzle during the day and then sit for pets while you unwind.
What are the cat's favorite games and toys?
She loves playing with food puzzles. She also likes to sit on her cat tree and observe the outside. She really loves being brushed over anything else.
How vocal is the cat?
Cindy Lou is a very vocal cat! She likes to meow when she greets me in the morning or when I come back home from work. She will always meow at me when I bend down to pet her. She gets very excited. She will also sit at the windowsill to watch the birds outside and will meep at them.
What kinds of sounds does the cat make?
I have heard meows the most. She usually will not hiss at you, unless you try to wash her. However, she is a very gentle cat.
Does the cat scratch a scratcher?
Yes. She currently has a cat tower with scratchers built in, and she loves scratching it. She also has another scratcher.
Does the cat always use the litter box?
Yes, I’ve only had trouble with her litter box use in the beginning when I gave her litter that she didn’t like. After I changed the litter to different type, she has no problem using the litter box and has not made a single mistake since.
What food and frequency is the cat currently eating?
She is currently eating wet food twice a day (breakfast/dinner) and has dry food to snack on throughout the day.
Is the cat picky about food?
She is not picky about the flavor of food, but I do tend to feed her gravy instead of pate for wet food. She really enjoys the Fancy Feast dry food. When I was feeding her the other dry food, she would sneak into the pantry to rip open the Fancy Feast dry food instead. I ultimately had to switch to that one instead. She also will eat more food if you add a little bit of water to the dry food or in wet food.
What is the cat's favorite treat?
Cindy Lou likes Churus the best. She also likes crunchy treats like Temptations.
Does the cat ever swat (claws in) at you? If so, under what circumstances?
Yes, when I touched her when she did not wish to be touched. She also gave me some warning signals beforehand with her tail. However, they were gentle swats and her paws did not even touch me; she just swatted the air in front of me.
Has the cat ever scratched (claws out) you?
Never.
Does the cat ever nip (teeth without breaking skin) you?
She will give very gentle and affectionate nips, and she really likes to nip at jewelry, but always in an docile way. She does not usually use her teeth to snarl at you.
Has the cat ever bitten you (breaking skin)?
Never.
To the best of your knowledge, how does the cat react to new people? Social? Fearful?
Cindy Lou is very good with new people. We often have people over in our apartment often, and she loves greeting them and getting attention from them.
Does that cat have any cute/quirky traits that aren’t covered by the previous questions?
Cindy Lou is a very clean kitty! She is very very good about grooming herself, and spend lots of time during the day keeping herself clean. She will also lick/groom me when I put out my hand to her, which is very sweet.
I believe she can understand most of the things I am saying as well. She responds to her name, and she is very intelligent. She will also come when she is called sometimes- depends on her mood.
In your opinion, what is the best thing about the cat? Why should an adopter choose THIS cat to adopt?
I believe Cindy Lou will be a wonderful companion to any home. She is such a sweet girl, and loves attention and affection. She is a great addition to any household! She is also just very cute with her mitten paws. She is very affectionate, and will wake you up in the morning by climbing on you and snuggling with you. She loves attention and affection!
What are the cat's challenges and how have you found to best manage them?
She does not do well when you are gone for long periods of time, but she has gotten better over time. The only times she has ever thrown up are when I am gone for a longer period of time (work or going out with friends but it honestly depends on the day because most times she is okay).
If you do not feed her within 20 minutes of her normal feeding time, you should give her half portions of the food at a time otherwise she will eat very fast and then throw up. She is quite picky about her litter and the food she eats. I would also add a little bit of crushed ice to the water otherwise she might not drink it.
