This sweet girl was transferred to PCHS from a valued rescue partner. She was originally found out on her own and had been out wandering for nearly 3 weeks before going to rescue. Understandably, she was very nervous and shut down when she first arrived. However, with time and patience, she is slowly learning that she can trust people.
Matilda is a big girl and is estimated to be some sort of mastiff mix. She is thought to be around 2 years old. She seems to have had a litter of pups in the past, but besides that, her past remains mostly unknown. When she first arrived to rescue, she was covered in ticks. She is now being treated for some tick borne illnesses. Regardless of her hardships, her gentle soul keeps shining through.

All prospective adopters must show (at the time of adoption) a valid drivers license or other acceptable identification to verify their name, address, and age. Adopters must be 18 yrs of age. Children under the age of 12 years old need to be present at time of viewing shelter cats or dogs.

Paws and Claws Humane Society is committed to partnering with the community to shelter, protect, and seek adoptive homes for abandoned or lost companion animals.
We have served Southern Minnesota for over 30 years and we are the largest shelter in the 8 surrounding counties that does not limit the length of stay for the animals in its care.
Paws & Claws is funded completely on donations and fundraising events and receives no federal, state, county or city funds.We currently have nearly 900 dues paying members.
Paws & Claws has a community fund to help pay for the spaying and neutering of companion animals for those who cannot afford it.
We give over 40 tours and presentations annually, educating the public [including over 400 children] about proper animal care and the importance of spaying and neutering companion animals to help control the pet population in Southern Minnesota.
We have over 110 families that participate in the Guardian Angel Program [sponsoring animals] each month.
Paws & Claws will take in an injured animal and get the emergency medical care that it requires.
Local veterinarians in and around Rochester help Paws & Claws by providing over 145 free spay or neuters each year.
In a typical year the shelter will facilitate adoptions and provide care for over 600 dogs and cats.
