My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Lukianna is a sweet and happy girl. She just loves everyone: other dogs, cats, people, children. If you're willing to stop and pet her, it's the best day of her life! Her cute little behind will wiggle back and forth like you can't believe with a tail that looks like it might even just take off.

Lukianna approaches cats to say "hi" in the kindest way possible, just in case they might want to play with her. And if they show signs they want to play, even better. And, dogs - oh how she loves to play with other dogs. She's a social girl through and through. She takes hints from others that don't want to play also, her social IQ is great, her temperament when anyone wants to play with her is perfect too.

Inside the house, Lukianna is calm and relaxed. She might alert you with a bark if someone is walking by but calms right down, and is especially excited if you're coming inside to say hello. She will find toys to play with or bones to chew on if she gets bored. She does fine out and about in the house while we're not home just chilling on the couch or the dog bed.

On the leash she's great, and boy does she get excited when she realizes you're getting the leash ready to talk a walk with her! She's always up for an adventure. Even a walk in the backyard is exciting to this girl.

Lukianna is a very well-behaved girl in the bath. She knows when she needs a clean-up. She tolerates grooming very well.

Lukianna's best characteristic as a former stray is that she's potty trained. If you have to be gone for a while after she's been out, she can hold it until you get back home to take her out. She is patient if you want to sleep in, waiting to go out until you're ready in the morning but then does her business in record time.

More about this shelter

The Humane Society of North Central Florida was created in 2018 when the leadership of the Alachua County Humane Society, Gainesville Pet Rescue, and Helping Hands Pet Rescue decided to permanently join forces. By becoming the Humane Society of North Central Florida, our organizations were able to effectively streamline services for pets and pet owners, eliminate any duplication of services, maximize our community’s resources, and improve the life-saving abilities of the entire region.

Our founding organizations have been dedicated to serving pets in Alachua County for more than 40 years. The Humane Society of North Central Florida is a limited intake, no-kill animal rescue shelter. The animals in our facility are transferred from open-intake and/or managed admission municipal shelters across North Central Florida. The Humane Society of North Central Florida is an independent, local 501(c)(3) organization. As such, we do not receive funding from federal agencies, nor are we affiliated with any other state or national organizations such as the Humane Society of the United States or the ASPCA.
