My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Teddy is a Cocker Spaniel mix, born appx 4-5 years ago (2021).  He knows how to "sit", walk on a leash and is house trained.  He is kennel trained and will "kennel up" if needed.  Teddy seems to do better with women.  Men tend to make him nervous and will trigger some aggression upon meeting, but he will actually warm up and be okay with them.  If a male enters and exits a room, that tends to trigger barking or growling because he gets protective at times.  When the room is calm, he'll approach the male for affection, but tends to do much better with women.

Teddy doesn't like quick movements, so he shouldn't be around children.  He's playful with some of the other dogs he's been around, but also gets fixated on some.  A home with another dog might keep him calmer, as long as the other dog isn't reactive.

There are some things or noises that are triggers for Teddy - when he hears a door or when a person comes in and out of the room, yelling or loud noises on the t.v.  He needs a quiet home without loud, unexpected noises.

Teddy needs a special person that is willing to work with him and help him learn to trust.  He needs someone that is willing to provide him with additional training.  It would also be beneficial for Teddy and his new person if they have experience with reactive dogs.

Teddy was found in the house after his owner passed away, so we don't know about the trauma that he might have experienced.  Teddy would love to have a fenced yard with room for him to run and explore.  He does well on a leash, so the fence is not required, but you would have to keep him on a leash when you take him outside.

The suggested adoption donation for Teddy is $375, which includes a lifetime of free relationship-based training for any behavioral problems (not obedience training).  Muddy Paws is a 501c3 non-profit organization meaning that part of your donation MAY be TAX DEDUCTIBLE. We are a 100% volunteer rescue committed to giving animals a second chance at life. All donations go toward that mission. Adoption fees are the primary source of funding for the cost of veterinary care for our animals. In 2022 alone, we provided animal Healthcare totaling over $399,000 covered mainly through adoption fees.

Please Note:  A Courtesy Post designates that an animal is still in the home of its owner and not in a Muddy Paws foster. This means that our exposure to the animal is limited since we are only assisting the owner in finding a new home for their pet. From time to time, owners find a new furever home for their pets outside of Muddy Paws Second Chance Rescue and there is a delay in removing them from our site. We apologize if the Courtesy Post you apply to adopt is unavailable for adoption.

Adoptions for Teddy are limited to the area within 50 miles of Omaha so that s/he can continue to take advantage of free training from our certified positive reinforcement trainers.

Information about the adoption process:  All adoptions require a completed ADOPTION APPLICATION. Once your application has completed our prescreen steps, we will put you in touch with the animal’s foster to see if you and the pet are a good match. If so, we will arrange a meeting for you and the animal. The adoptions for all of our animals will take place in the Omaha, NE area and must be done by the adoptive family in person. We do not ship or deliver.

Please Note:  We are a RESCUE, which is different from a shelter. We conduct veterinary and personal reference checks, and a Home Visit (Virtual in some cases) during the application approval process. We always select the right applicant for each animal, based on the animal’s needs. If you and the animal are not a good match, we will help you select another animal, or we will keep your approved application on file for 6 months.

More about this rescue

Muddy Paws Second Chance Rescue, Inc. is a not for profit organization formed in 2014 by a small group of devoted animal lovers, in the Council Bluffs/Omaha area, with many years of rescue experience wanting to make a difference in the lives of dogs. Our rescue focuses on small breed dogs, less than 35 pounds, of any age. It is all volunteer based, and all of our rescue dogs are living in the homes of our volunteers.
Our rescue is unique in that we offer supportive services, such as education and training, to owners considering relinquishing their pet in an effort to try to keep the dog in their home whenever possible. We also educate and offer placement assistance to owners attempting to rehome their pets through social media sites, which can often be risky for the pets as well as the owners.
