My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Coal is a young black Lab with a tough past, but a remarkably gentle spirit. He has a jaw disfigurement, likely from an old, untreated attack—but it doesn’t slow him down or dim his sweetness one bit. Coal is resilient, affectionate, and eager to trust again.

He meets new friends easily, both dogs and people, and all he truly wants is what every dog deserves: a safe place, a warm bed, and someone to call his own. Coal’s past shaped him, but it doesn’t define him—his heart does.

If you’re ready for a meet and greet, kick off the process with an application at www.flyingbrescue.org/adopt.

Our application is thorough but there are no right or wrong answers. We just want to make sure you and the pet are the perfect match. Once we receive your application, we will schedule a phone interview. Our adoptions include a 2-week trial period with fully refundable adoption fees during that period.

If you are located outside of Texas, we offer transportation services and have happy families as references. We value transparency, so don’t be afraid to ask us anything.

More about this rescue

Flying B Animal Rescue & Sanctuary was founded in honor of my husband Tom Baker who passed away in 2023 from pancreatic cancer. Tom understood my profound love of animals and wanted me to follow my dream to start an animal rescue - so here we are.

Flying B provides rescue, shelter, and rehabilitation for abandoned animals in the Ellis County and surrounding areas.
