Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Meet Jawa, a beautiful young tortie with a personality as unique as her gorgeous markings—including an adorable light-colored tip on her tail. Jawa is a thoughtful, observant kitten who takes her time getting to know her surroundings and the people in them. She’s shy at first, especially with new pets, but once she feels safe, her curious and independent nature begins to shine. She loves climbing high on the cat tower, tucking herself into cozy hideaways, and pouncing on wand toys and mouse toys with quiet confidence.
Jawa is the kind of kitten who forms bonds slowly and genuinely. She prefers all four feet on the ground and appreciates affection on her own terms—classic tortie energy. She would thrive in a calm home with adults or older individuals who understand and respect her boundaries and enjoy watching a more reserved cat blossom at her own pace. If you’re looking for a companion who will choose you in her own time and reward your patience with trust, presence, and quiet affection, Jawa may be the perfect fit. Give us a call at (740) 314-5583 for more information!

More about this shelter
We are the Jefferson County Humane Society and , except for our humane officers (who are paid very nominally), we are all volunteers! Our members were instrumental in getting a local levy passed to build a new and larger shelter and the doors opened in 2011. We are currently participating in Iams Home for the Holidays Program and the Purina Pets for People grant program. We are actively pursuing other grants and recently have been asked by the county to partner with them in the operation of the new shelter. Since we are a humane society, our main focus is on getting animals spayed and neutered so there are no more homeless pets. To that end, we bring in a mobile animal surgical clinic who performs spays and neuters at a reduced rate. We are always looking for volunteers to help us in our efforts and, of course, for financial contributions (we are a non-profit, 501 (c)3) and pet adopters! Other items such as food, treats, pet carriers, cages, leashes, collars, food bowls, etc. are also ALWAYS welcomed and appreciated. Please contact us if you have an item to be donated or would like to volunteer with us to try to save some of these homeless, but very loveable, dogs!
