Hi I’m Pita. I’m still pretty small, and the world feels very big. I haven’t quite figured out humans yet. I watch them from safe places—behind a chair, under a blanket—just peeking out to see what they might do next. I might let out a little hiss at first, but I want to be brave, I really do. Sometimes my tail even gives a little hopeful wiggle before I remember I’m supposed to be shy. I’m learning that soft voices aren’t scary, and that gentle hands can bring nice things like treats, toys, and warm laps. But I’ll need time—real time—to feel safe in a new home. I’m the kind of kitten who needs someone patient, kind, and willing to show me that humans can be trustworthy and loving. If you can give me a quiet space, steady routines, and lots of understanding, I promise I’ll do my best to grow into the brave, affectionate companion I know I can be. I may start out hesitant, but once I learn that you’re my person, you’ll have my whole little heart.

The Windsor/Essex County Humane Society was founded in 1926 and incorporated in 1949. The Humane Society has a publicly-tendered contract with the City of Windsor to provide animal control and basic shelter services in the City. This is only a portion of the work done by our organization. In 2016 almost 12,000 animal came through the doors of our shelter and spay/neuter clinic. We can’t help them without your support.
