Animal Saints Rescue Society was asked to help with a hoarding situation where several litters of puppies were born in quick succession. Dozens of Shih Tzu were living in a very small apartment where hobby breeding quickly became untenable. It is an honor to help get all of the adults neutered so the breeding stops, as well as ensure that the babies are placed with lifetime families.
Age: 4 months
Breed: Shih Tzu birthdate: 7.28.2025
Weight: approximately 3.5 pounds. She will be approximately 9-10 pounds full grown.
Vaccines and treatments:
Rabies
Bordetella
DHPP, part one and two
Other tests and procedures for the litter:
Heart worm test - negative
Erlichia, Anaplasma, and Lyme test - negative
Fecal test - negative
Additional procedures:
Microchipped
Because Sahni is so young, her spay surgery will need to happen after her adoption at the age of six months. A spay deposit of $300 will be required when the adoption is made official. This deposit will be refunded when we receive the spay certificate from the adopter. The adopter may choose the doctor of their choice and pay for the surgery themselves. Alternatively, a spay voucher for Otterkill Animal Hospital in Maybrook, New York can be provided if you are willing to take her to this clinic for her surgery.
Requested adoption donation fee is only $900. This is to partly cover her veterinary bills and care expenses that our 501(c)(3) nonprofit animal rescue incurred to help her.
Sahni has hair and not fur. She is a brown and white Shih Tzu with a hint of blue in one of her eyes.
PLEASE NOTE: Sahni's hair will grow as it is not fur. She will need professional grooming every 4-6 weeks. Only apply if you understand the additional maintenance and cost these dear hair-not-fur souls need and are willing to commit to life for such care.
Sahni has been so patient for her baths, haircuts, and nail trims.
Sahni is the leader of the litter. She likes to oversee playtime and telling her siblings what to do. She is first in line for mealtime. Sometimes, when her littermates are all napping in a pile together, she will lay in the bed next to them -- almost as if she is watching over everyone. Once everyone is settled, she will join them. Despite her independence, she loves her friends and thrives having others around. She's a HOOT! Once she's had her meal, she is ready to receive hugs and give them right back. She loves to give us mere humans a kiss right on the end of the nose.
It is ideal for Sahni to be in a home with other small dogs or dog friendly cats around. She would not do well in a home as the only dog, especially if her people are gone all day at work. Families with children are case-by-case.
Sahni will especially thrive in a home that can give her companionship day and night. She’d be okay for a few hours on her own with her siblings if you provided her with puzzles and things to do while you’re away.
Plan on sharing your sofa and bedroom with Sahni. She will want to be by your side, no matter where you are and what you are doing.
If you have a very secure fenced-in backyard for running and playing, this is ideal for Sahni. She is going to be a little girl, even full grown. She will need exercise but not miles and miles of daily hiking like a working dog. She is a companion animal in the truest sense of the word. Her goal is to love and be loved.
At Animal Saints Rescue Society, our goal is to keep dogs out of overcapacity animal control facilities and out of a re-homing cycle. We place the dogs we save into lifetime families. With this in mind, we seek families who understand that an adoption is a lifetime commitment. The families who adopt from us believe that love is not a feeling, it is a decision. Some humans still believe it’s okay to try out a dog for a few weeks, a few months, or even a few years — then discard when they get bored or don’t want to deal with emotional or physical ailments. We are looking for the empathetic, kind, and patient humans in this world who view these Animal Saints as family, and they will do whatever it takes to give them what they need.
Will that family be you? We look forward to finding out and receiving your application!
