Tinsel came to us very scared and shut down. She takes time to trust new people and needs a calm, patient environment where she can decompress at her own pace. The shelter environment is overwhelming for her, and she thrives most when outside of it. She is ready for a placement where she can finally feel safe and begin to show her true personality.
The challenges:
-Very fearful and shy around new people and new environments especially at the shelter.
-Tries to curl up, crouch, or try to disappear when stressed.
-Overwhelmed by other dogs who are overly playful or exuberant.
-Needs slow introductions to people and animals, with careful management of stress triggers.
-Will require a patient adopter or foster who can go at her pace and avoid forcing interactions.
The good stuff:
-Responds positively to gentle handling, treats, and calm guidance.
-Has begun to decompress, allowing brief lap time and petting with a trusted person.
-Knows basic cues such as “sit,” “down,” and “paw.”
-Enjoys quiet companionship with other calm dogs, and benefits from their presence as comfort.
-Shows excitement and happiness when she feels safe around supportive companions.
Who she needs:
Tinsel is looking for a patient, experienced adopter or foster who can provide a calm, structured environment and allow her to build trust on her own terms. She will do best in a quiet home, ideally with a calm canine companion who can offer comfort without overwhelming her. With time, consistency, and gentle encouragement, Tinsel has the potential to grow into a confident, loving companion.
Tinsel is not a fast-paced, easy-going dog, but for the right person, she can thrive and reveal a sweet, affectionate personality that has been hidden by fear for too long.
