Rainey is a sweet Pyr girl who's ready to finder her furever home! This gentle soul came to rescue from Kentucky where she'd been abandoned and needed some medical attention and grooming, but she's already looking fabulous as her beautiful coat grows back in. Rainey is a wonderfully mellow companion with a low activity level who walks beautifully on leash and is doing great with her crate training. She's quite the smart cookie too, knowing sit, lay down, wait, leave it, and several helpful commands for navigating the house and hopping into the car. While she's calm and relaxed most of the time, she does have adorable bursts of energy first thing in the morning or after spending time in her kennel. What makes Rainey truly special is her incredibly loving and loyal nature—she's all about those gentle snuggles and would choose cuddles over treats any day! She adores being brushed, receiving tummy rubs, and having her head gently cradled, and she's always 100% ready whenever someone's available for pets. Rainey has mastered the art of car rides, contentedly lying down or occasionally enjoying the breeze from an open window. She gets along with other dogs, though she does prefer to eat away from other canines since she's protective of her food. When meeting new people, she tends to warm up best to those who are 40 and over, and she appreciates when folks approach slowly and speak softly rather than with loud excitement. Rainey's ideal forever home would have a 5’ fenced yard, and be a quiet household where she can be the only dog and receive all the love and attention she craves. She's happiest being inside with her people, though she'll enjoy spending 30 minutes or so outdoors when the weather's nice. One of Rainey's most endearing quirks is how she persistently moves her bed right next to her foster mom's chair—no matter how many times it gets repositioned, she drags it back because she simply must be close to her favorite person! If you're looking for a calm, cuddly, eager-to-please companion who will devotedly follow you around the house and fill your days with gentle affection, Rainey is your girl!

NYS Registered Non-Profit Rescue # RR102. National Great Pyrenees Rescue (NGPR) has been rescuing and adopting out Great Pyrenees since 2006. Our relationship doesn’t end with adoption, as we continue to support adopters throughout the lifetime of their dog.
Our goal is to assess every application on its own merits. Key considerations are: 1) the experience of the applicant with large breed dogs 2) children in the household or regularly visiting the household are ready for a large-breed dog who is a guardian by nature and 3) the sex of other dogs currently residing in the household to avoid same-sex aggression issues. For puppies under six months old, the applicant’s ability to socialize the puppy with older dogs is a priority.
