My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Inky, a bright, playful, and affectionate cat who’s ready to find her forever home. Though she may be shy at first, with patience and love her true personality shines through—and it’s worth the wait. Inky is endlessly entertaining with her favourite laser pointer and stuffed mice toys, and she’s always eager for a daily (or even twice-daily) play session. however, she is also happy to play on her own. She’s also a foodie at heart—never picky, happily enjoying kibble while she waits on her twice-a-day wet food (slight preference towards fish-flavoured meals), and her nightly Churu treat, which she celebrates with the cutest happy-paw dance.

In addition to food and toys, Inky has a soft spot for catnip and brushing sessions, and her purrs—sometimes quiet and soothing, sometimes deep and rumbly—make her companionship even more special. As a gentle and submissive cat, she’s happiest as the only pet in a calm, loving household. She has no interest in the outdoors and would make a wonderful apartment companion. All she asks for is a scratching pad, an accessible litter box, and a human who will give her the patience and understanding she deserves.

She is mostly black, with a white patch on her chest and a surprising white patch on her belly. She could not be more adorable!

Inky is looking for an experienced adopter who can respect her boundaries and delight in watching her blossom into the loyal, playful, and loving companion she’s become in her foster home. If you’re ready for a truly rewarding bond, Inky is waiting to meet you.

Inky had a recent dental and will need another one in mid- to late-2026. Like all ACR cats, Inky is up-to-date on vaccines and has been treated for fleas and parasites.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

If you are thinking of adopting a cat or kitten, please contact us. Annex Cat Rescue has matched over 1000 cats and kittens with good adoptive homes since our group started!

Annex Cat Rescue cats live in real homes with our foster volunteers -- not in cages! This way, the cats live in normal homes and receive good food and medical care -- and lots of personal attention. We get to know each cat, so we can help you find the best cat for you. It's kind of like a kitty match-making service!

All of our cats are vaccinated, have been de-wormed, and are spayed or neutered once they reach six months of age.

We are always available if you have questions or concerns as your new cat is adjusting to your home.

Here is our adoption process:

  • Please leave a voice mail or email.

  • One of our Adoption Team volunteers will contact you to find out more about the kind of kitty you are looking for. We will suggest which of our cats might be the best match for you, and put you in touch with a few foster homes for you to contact.

  • You can go and visit the cat in the foster home and see if you think it's a match.

  • If you fall in love on the spot (so easy with kitties!) we ask you to go home and think about it overnight, since it's an important decision for you and for the kitty.

  • Then, if it's a match, you can bring your cat carrier (and the adoption fee -- which is modest and does not cover all of our expenses) then take your kitty home! We ask all adopters to sign our adoption agreement, which just sets out some basics so we all understand our roles, with the kitty's best interests first and foremost!

  • A day or two later, we'll call you to make sure all is well and provide any suggestions that might be helpful, if needed.

The Annex Cat Rescue's motto is "Cat Adoption with a Difference." If the adoption does not work out (a rare occurrence, in part due to our excellent "match-making"!), whatever the reason, the cat will always be welcomed back to our organization. We want the best for our kitties!

The Annex Cat Rescue is a grassroots community organization. We are 100% non-paid volunteer-run. Our organization attempts to make a real difference for the homeless, stray and abandoned cats in this city through direct intervention and education. Every day, many people turn to us for help when Toronto Animal Services cannot.

ACR does *not* run an animal shelter. All of our cats/kittens live in volunteer foster homes across Toronto where they are allowed to blossom and grow in a "home" environment (rather than in cages), and where they receive individual attention and love.

While this prevents possible behavioural problems associated with caging animals, this also allows us to get to know each animal intimately and thus we can make excellent matches with adopters. Potential adopters are required to make appointments to view the animals in their respective homes.

Our organization is "no kill". This means that cats in our care remain in foster homes are not euthanized (except for dire humane reasons). City shelters do not have such a policy.

More about this rescue

Cat Adoption with a Difference

The Annex Cat Rescue began as a group of volunteers living primarily in the Annex neighbourhood in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. We now have members from all over the city. We share a common bond -- a love of cats and concern for their welfare. We are a non-profit organization and have no government funding.

It is our goal to eliminate cruelty to animals by providing for the fostering and adoption of cats that are homeless, abandoned, or where their owners (through illness, age, or death) can no longer care for them. We try to educate members of our community regarding the proper care of cats and to provide information aimed at reducing the feral, homeless, and abandoned populations. Throughout the year, we assist in the feeding of many feral cat colonies and operate a trap-neuter/spay-return (TNR) program.

Please lend your support to our cause by adopting one of our wonderful cats or by contributing a small donation!

HOW YOU CAN HELP

The success of Annex Cat Rescue depends on the dedication of our volunteers -- not just the foster homes and trappers who work hands-on, but also those who support ACR's rescue work behind-the-scenes. If you, or anyone you know, is interested in becoming a volunteer, or expanding your work within the organization, please apply online.

Please see our website for some ways you can help. Our experienced volunteers are always there to support you, and even a few hours of your time every month can make a big difference.
