Kendrick is a 5-year-old Lab Retriever mix who came to the shelter on 10/09 after the death of his owner. He is a medium-sized boy weighing 36 lbs. The releaser reported that Kendrick did not do well with small dogs and seemed to show discomfort or dislike toward some men.
In the shelter, Kendrick has presented with mixed behaviors. At times, he is attention seeking, approaching with loose body language, sniffing calmly, and offering a light tail wag. However, he can quickly become unsure and may back up, growl, or bare his teeth when he feels uncomfortable or pressured.
With other dogs, his caretaker notes that Kendrick has been okay with dogs his own size, though continued, proper introductions are recommended.
Kendrick would benefit from a calm, patient home with someone who can give him space, structure, and time to build trust.
We recommend following the 3-3-3 guideline when helping Kendrick settle in: 3 days to decompress, 3 weeks to learn the routine, and 3 months to feel fully at home.
