Meet Uma! Uma, Umbra, Ursula, Uber, and Uno were brought to THS as itty bitty kittens who were sickly and under-socialized. Lucky for them, a dedicated foster mom took them home and got them better and more eager to cuddle and play! They love snacks and are ready to find their furrever homes where they can get all the toys and treats they so deserve!!
Uma`s foster mom said she was usually the one to run and hide when she heard her foster mom coming to the room. However, she can eventually be won over with strings and wand toys. She has always been the shyest of her crew, but with the right family patient enough to let her come out of her shell, we know her `torti-tude` will soon melt away into an endless love!!
Stop by and meet one of these foster fuzzballs today!! Don`t forget, cats and kittens have an adopt one, take home a second for half the fee when going to the same home!!
Upon arrival, a routine blood test showed a positive result for Feline Leukemia Virus (FeLV) on a sibling to this kitten. It is recommended that FeLV positive cats live as an only cat, or with other confirmed positive cats. FeLV is not contagious to people or dogs. Positive cats will have a weakened immune system, and it will be important that they remain housed indoors only and receive preventative care. This kitten has not had a confirmation test, and it is recommended to have one done within 2-5 months of adoption, to confirm a true negative result.
You may find more information about FeLV at https://resources.bestfriends.org/article/feline-leukemia-felv-faqs.

More about this shelter
The Toledo Area Humane Society was founded on February 14, 1884. As one of the oldest humane societies in the United States, our original purpose was to prevent cruelty and provide refuge for both animals and children. To this day, we investigate cruelty to animals and provide homeless, abused and abandoned animals with protection and safety. TAHS is a private, non-profit organization and receives no funding from the United Way, the government, or national humane organizations. Donations from local individuals, corporations and generated by our fundraisers are the sole source of funding. Programs like Forever Friends, for people who include TAHS in their wills, and the Golden Paw League, for people who give gifts of $250 or more, have been established to give people donation options and to recognize their generosity. Volunteers help supplement the staff assisting with tasks both inside and outside of our facility. Volunteers provide enrichment for animals such as walking dogs or socializing cats. The Humane Education and Pet Therapy Visitation programs are dependent on our volunteers. Foster care volunteers provide a safe, nurturing environment for animals too young for adoption and for sick or injured animals. It is our goal to help every animal at-risk for abandonment or cruelty, and to find a home for every adoptable animal. The Humane Society is the only animal welfare group in this community who will give refuge to any animal at-risk for abuse or neglect, regardless of its type, health, age or whether we have space.
