Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Meet Ursa — a beautiful, big-hearted girl finally getting her chance at the good life she deserves. 🐾❤️ Ursa has spent the last 3–4 years being used to produce litter after litter of puppies. Thankfully, she’s now with us, spayed, safe, and ready for a brand-new beginning. And let us tell you — she is so done having puppies and more than ready to just be someone’s beloved companion. She’s around 5 years old and appears to be a Labrador / Cane Corso mix, with stunning deep brown eyes that practically beg for a gentle pet. Ursa is a big girl with an even bigger heart. She does wonderfully with other dogs, is housebroken, and is incredibly affectionate. She has also been around children and does great with them. The only thing she asks is a home without cats, as they’re a bit too tempting for her. Ursa is also the proud mom of the 12 adorable puppies currently in our shelter — and now it’s her turn to be loved, spoiled, and cherished. If you’re looking for a loyal, loving companion who has so much affection to give, Ursa is ready for her forever home. All cats and dogs adopted from the Chequamegon Humane Association are spayed or neutered, up-to-date on age appropriate vaccinations, dewormed, and microchipped. Dogs are tested for heartworm. A minimum adoption fee of $185 is required for adult dogs, puppy adoption fees start $300, and dogs over the age of 10 are $100. Adult cat adoption fees are $85, kittens under one year are $135, and cats over the age of 10 are $50.

The Chequamegon Humane Association depends on the generous contributions from donors like you. Because of you, we are able to rescue and re-home hundreds of animals like this one every year!
ABOUT US
CHA serves as a temporary safe haven for homeless animals from Ashland and Bayfield Counties.
OUR MISSION
To promote and support the humane treatment of animals in the Chequamegon Bay area.
ORGANIZATION OVERVIEW
Picture
Initially volunteers ran CHA (or CAL - Chequamegon Animal League- as it was then known) out of their homes until a parcel of land was obtained from the City of Ashland on Old Airport Road. The current building was constructed in two phases: The indoor/outdoor dog runs came first and the cat room and office were added at a later date. Up until the mid-1990’s, there was no preventative care given to the cats and dogs adopted out; no vaccines were given and the animals were not spayed or neutered. The average annual budget was around $10,000/year, most of which came from Ashland and Bayfield counties for animal control.
In 1994 CHA received a generous bequeath, which allowed the organization to implement a minimum standard of care so that only spayed and neutered animals up-to-date on vaccinations were released for adoption. This was the first step toward changing the continuous flow of unwanted cats and dogs in our area.
Since then CHA has been dedicated to improving the quality of life for homeless pets by providing medical care and socialization to every cat and dog that comes through our doors. We have also reached out to the community with low-cost spay/neuter options for low-income households. The staff and board of directors sincerely hope you will join us in continuously making our community a better place for all pets and their people. If you have some time, why not take the volunteer training session (first Sunday of each month at noon) so you can spend some quality time with the cats or take a dog for a walk on the newly improved shelter property trails.
