My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Mr. Bentley is a 3-year-old English Bulldog with a heart as big as his body. Reported to weigh around 70 pounds, he's built like a tank but is truly the sweetest, most eager-to-please boy. We'll confirm his official weight at his vet appointment, but one thing is already clear, Bentley is a lovable goofball.

Bentley is a quick learner and really wants to make his people happy. He's currently working on greeting manners, especially learning not to jump up for pets the moment you walk into the room. When he gets excited, he sometimes nibbles on hands and nudges you with his whole body to soak up affection-adorable, but would be a bit much for young kids. For this reason, a home with adults or older, dog-savvy children will be the best fit.

Despite his size, Bentley has a playful spirit. He loves to chase his ball (short distances) before taking a well-earned break. Losing weight has been a challenge for him, but with patience and a steady routine, his fitness and stamina will continue improving. We're slowly helping him build his tolerance for walks-he'll clearly let you know when he's tired by stopping and pulling back on the leash. He's incredibly strong, so he will need a handler who can manage his strength with confidence.

Bentley has shown excellent manners around other dogs when passing them on walks and hasn't shown much interest in squirrels or cats so far. He's also crate-friendly-he may cry a bit at first, but he settles in and has slept in his crate like a champ. He especially enjoys relaxing in a crate during car rides.

He already knows a couple of commands, including sit and shake. Loud noises startle him, and he tends to move away from busy or noisy areas on walks, so a calmer environment will help him feel secure.

We're still getting to know Mr. Bentley, but everything we've seen so far tells us he's a truly good boy with a ton of love to give. We'll share more as we continue to get to know him.

Additional adoption info

Adoption fees are based on the breed, health, age, and behavioral status of each dog. All dogs are microchipped, spayed or neutered, vaccinated, flea/worm treated and have had a wellness exam before becoming adoptable. If you are interested in adopting a BHNW dog, please fill out the online application. If you are matched to the dog you are interested in or another dog in our program, you will be contacted by the foster family. Prior to adopting, there is a mandatory home evaluation to ensure your home and family are ready for that dog. We require a contract for all adoptions and there is a two-week trial to ensure a good match. If for any reason you can no longer care for the dog you adopted from us, that dog must be returned to our program.
