Name: Anna Mae
Gender: Female
Age: 2 years
Current Weight: 55 lbs
Expected Adult Size: Large (50-100 lbs)
Breed: Shepherd Mix
Energy Level: Medium
Dog Friendly: Yes, and can have other dogs in the home or can be an only dog.
Cat Friendly: Selective
Kid Friendly: Yes
Apartment Friendly: Yes
Physical Fence Requirement: Physical fence preferred but not required with regular walks/exercise
Crate Trained: Yes for short periods of time
Potty Trained: Yes
Ideal Home/Adopter: Anna Mae would love to live with a family who has another dog that likes to play and wrestle, but she is not too pushy about it and will likely be ok as an only dog with regular playdates. She adores children, even small ones, and would love to live with (respectful) kids - she gives kisses but is not a jumper! She likes to run in short bursts, so a fenced yard would be great but as long as you help her get some zoomies out every day, she will be happy as she is young but not super high energy. Anna Mae loves to give kisses and snuggle for a minute, but then is happy to take her own little spot next to you on the couch or in her doggie bed. She has some fear of men that she doesn’t know but is not aggressive, just timid. She immediately trusts and loves women and children but will need the men in her life to be patient with her until she realizes they aren’t scary.
Likes: Stuffies (will destroy them), chewing on bones, hanging out with kids, running in the snow, snuggling on the couch, getting pets, giving kisses, butt scratches. Just a generally happy go lucky girl. She is very interested in cats and wants to chase them.
Dislikes: Anna Mae is currently a bit of a velcro dog but changes as she gets more comfortable. She will go into her crate very easily but does not want to stay in if you are home because she likes being next to you. Can you blame her? She would like to sleep in the same room as you but doesn’t necessarily want to be in the bed. She needs the men that she meets to be understanding of the fact that she needs a little time to learn that they can be trusted.
Anna Mae flinches when something moves quickly over her head. Adopters should have some understanding of dog body language so they can tell when something makes her feel scared or nervous, and be willing to ease her into their home life until she gains some more confidence. If someone is willing to put in a little work to make her more confident, they will have a best friend for life.
Anna Mae looks like someone made a dog collage with a shepherd’s head and bulldog’s upper body with a tiny back end. She is adorable. Her foster parents have had many rescue adoptions and fosters over the years and they’ve unanimously decided she’s been the easiest one to bring in. She is a VERY GOOD GIRL and just wants to make you happy. She has the perfect amount of energy and likes to get it out in short bursts and then lay around the rest of the day. She is completely non-reactive with new dogs and makes friends easily. She has zero food or toy aggression, and on the off chance that she gets a hold of something she shouldn’t have, you can take it right out of her mouth. There is so much love inside of this little body and she clearly just so badly wants to share it with someone. She has spent at least half of her life in a loud and cramped shelter environment, and it’s time for her to get a family of her own to love.
Anna Mae's adoption fee is $350. All fees include spay/neuter, microchip, vaccinations, worming, flea and heartworm current. All dogs over 6 months of age have been tested and are heartworm negative. If you are interested in Anna Mae, apply at rescuedohio.org to become an approved adopter and a meet & greet can be set up once approved.
