My personality

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Nick, a tender-hearted, 4-year-old, 50# Border Collie ready to discover what it feels like to be truly treasured. He is the kind of dog whose gentle presence fills a home with warmth. He's adoring, amorous, and cuddly. If you're looking for a special connection, Nick wants to meet you!

Nick’s favorite thing in the whole world is simple: attention from his people. He melts with affection, and happily settles in close once he trusts you. He enjoys getting out for daily walks, with a love of quiet nature trails where he can take in new sights (and smells!) at his own pace. Because his life before rescue was limited, many experiences are still new to him. Nick is optimistic and willing to learn about the world. With patience and reassurance, he’s blossoming beautifully - look at his proud smile in pictures!

This handsome guy would thrive in a moderately active home with a calm vibe. People who enjoy including their dog in their daily rhythm are a perfect fit. A fenced yard is ideal, and he can live with a family with a history of keeping dogs safe on leash. He doesn’t require an experienced herding-dog family; he simply needs people who are kind and ready to help him build confidence. He’s good with cats and can live with older kids. While a canine sibling would be a lovely bonus, it’s not required if his humans are engaged with him.

Nick is still working on his housebreaking (schedule helps!) and basic obedience skills. He lights up with praise for a job well done. He finds comfort in his crate, and walks better on leash all the time. His foster family describes him as an eager, open-hearted student.

If you're looking for a deeply bonded companion, Nick is ready to make up for lost time. He will become the cherished best friend he was always meant to be.

Nick is being fostered in Clear Lake, MN (near St. Cloud).

As a foster-based rescue, we do not have a central facility to visit. Meet and greets with specific dogs are arranged once your adoption application (not an inquiry through Petfinder) has been received, processed, and approved. We are located in Minnesota and adopt to an area 400 miles from Minneapolis/St. Paul.

Nick's adoption fee is $450 + MN sales tax. He is neutered, microchipped, and up to date on age-appropriate vaccines. Upon adoption, all of our dogs go to their new homes with a collar and harness, leash, starter food, blanket, favorite toys & treats. They are current on flea/tick and heartworm prevention.

More about this rescue

Heart of a Border Collie Rescue, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit with foster homes in the Twin Cities, Duluth and other locations in the Midwest. We are dedicated to the rehoming of Border Collies, Border Collie mixes and other herding breeds in need of help in Minnesota, the Dakotas and neighboring states. We provide temporary housing in approved foster homes, proper medical care, training, rehabilitation and education of prospective homes.

There are no paid positions in our rescue: we are all volunteers who support the HOABCR mission because we love the breed and want to help dogs in need. We are always looking to welcome like-minded fosters and other volunteers to partner with us in helping dogs!
