My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Winnie!

2 years old • 27 lbs • Mixed Breed • Sweet • Sensitive • Silly

Winnie is a diamond in the rough with so much love (and personality!) to offer the right home. This petite girl has gone from 20 lbs to a healthy 27 lbs and is thriving in her foster home.

Winnie is an energetic, curious pup who loves watching—and chasing—woodland creatures and birds. If she hears critters outside, she’ll let you know by hopping to the window with great enthusiasm. Because of this strong prey drive, a home without cats is a must, as she’s shown too much interest in trying to chase and potentially harm them.

Despite her adventurous streak, Winnie is also an affectionate cuddler who adores her people. She greets her foster and her adult children with pure joy every time they walk into the room. She also plays beautifully with the resident dog until they’re both happily worn out.

Winnie is still working on her confidence. She may bark when her foster leaves the room and can be fearful with some strangers. She was very anxious at the vet and is currently taking trazodone to help with those stressful moments. With patient guidance and reassurance, she’ll continue to blossom—she truly wants to be brave.

What Winnie Does Well
    •    Potty trained — does great going outside
    •    Sleeps quietly in her kennel all night
    •    Loves other playful dogs
    •    Affectionate and loyal
    •    Eager to bond with her people

Quirks to Know
    •    Has a strong prey drive (no cats or small animals)
    •    May bark or scratch in the kennel early in the morning if she hears activity
    •    Barks when her person leaves the room
    •    Still learning confidence with unfamiliar people
    •    Will eat if given the opportunity (a management issue many dogs outgrow!)

Winnie is looking for an adopter who understands that she’s still learning the world can be a safe place. With love, structure, and patience, she’ll shine into the incredible dog she’s meant to be.

If you’re ready for a loyal, cuddly, playful companion who just needs a little polishing, Winnie might be your perfect match.

He/She is scheduled for alteration on 12/23/25.  If adopted prior to this date, adopter will sign an alteration contract and submit a $100 reimbursable deposit at the time of alteration.  We ask that the deposit be in the form of a CHECK.   Adopter will be expected to bring the animal to this surgery appointment on day, time and at location scheduled.  If the adopter fails to bring to date of surgery, the deposit will NOT be refunded.  We value the time our Veterinarian's provide us.  We are charged a fee for cancellations or no show appointments.  Missed appointments also delay care that other animals could be receiving. For more information, or to apply for adoption, visit our website at: www.RescueOutreach.com

All breeds are best guess from veterinarian based on physical exam.  All animals come from high kill shelters with poor access to resources.  Once they arrive to our rescue they are quarantined for health purposes and spoiled in loving foster homes until their forever home is found!  Our organization is operated 100% by volunteers who give their time and love out of the goodness of their hearts.

Go meet their pets

Foster based means that we are NOT a shelter. All of our adoptable animals are kept in loving foster homes until their FUREVER family finds them! All of our foster homes have demonstrated they have what it takes to love an animal and ensure their adopter is an excellent fit. Our fosters are volunteers who open their hearts and their homes to shelter animals embarking on their journey of a second chance. Take comfort knowing your pet has been in a loving home acclimating to life outside of the shelter!

More about this rescue

We are a group of local rescuers working in collaboration with Starfish Animal Rescue to save the lives of cats and kittens in need. The shelter these felines are being rescued from is located in Hazard, Kentucky. This is a mountain city with HIGH kill rates and LOW adoption. Recently they were faced with having to EUTHANIZE over 60 cats and kittens in order to make room for new intake. In order to prevent this tragic occurrence, we reached out to Starfish Animal Rescue. Starfish works with local rescues to transport animals from these rural areas and bring them to safe, loving, rescues and homes. We have rescue experience and are working closely with Starfish to ensure all adoptable cats and kittens are vetted, healthy and go to loving homes.
