My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Robert is a total goof that’s all legs, love, and laughter! This 8 month old lab mix may seem a little derpy as he’s growing into those long legs of his but he’s actually quite intelligent! Robert catches on to things quickly and has already learned a handful of commands including “sit”, “(lay) down”, “shake”, “spin”, “wait” (used before meals and treats, “ok” to release), and “gentle” when taking treats. He also knows “come” and is working on mastering his recall. He’s working on “stay” and learning that the command “enough” during play means we’re done. He can be quite mouthy when he wants to play, so he’s learning to use his “off switch” when it becomes too much. Robert lives with other dogs (big and small) in his foster home as well as a couple cats and gets along with everybody. He’s a snuggler…and a bed hog! He’ll take up the entire bottom half of the bed all night long and insist he’s the only reason your feet are warm! Robert is crate trained and knows what “kennel up” means. He’s (mostly) house trained and will stand by the door when he needs to go out if you catch his cue in time. Like your typical lab, he loves water and playing fetch! Robert has the best puppy dog eyes and truly wants to please his humans. He’s going to make someone very lucky!

Robert’s adoption fee is $425 plus MN tax which covers his neuter, vaccinations appropriate at the time of adoption, microchip and any additional medical care he may have needed while in the rescue’s care.
We are a foster based rescue, we do not house dogs at a facility. Age and breed are NLR's best guess as we often don't know who or what mom and dad are. If you are interested in adopting, please fill out an application on our website www.northernlakesrescue.org

Go meet their pets

Northern Lakes Rescue is foster based so all dogs are being fostered by amazing volunteers across the state of MN. Because of this, we require all meet and greets to be scheduled after an application is submitted.

Our focus after you apply is to get you scheduled to meet the dog within 3 to 7 days.

More about this rescue

Our Vision is to be a voice for those who are voiceless. We hear them with our hearts and give them a voice. Looking into the eyes of a rescued animal will speak volumes; watching those eyes light up will have an everlasting impact on you and the rescued animals.

We aren’t a typical rescue as we don’t take in dogs and put them in kennels until they’re adopted. All dogs we rescue are placed in loving foster homes that teach them to be the best dog they can be.

Our journey doesn’t end with adoption, either. We are here for you to support you in integrating your new member into your home, cheer new triumphs, and help with struggles.
