Meet Champion, the tail wagging superstar with a heart full of love and a smile that can brighten even the cloudiest day. True to his name, Champion is a winner in every way. He is sweet, affectionate, and ready to be your loyal companion through all of life’s adventures.

Champion has a gentle spirit and a calm, easygoing personality that makes him a joy to be around. He loves meeting new people and will happily wag his tail the entire time you’re talking to him. Whether you are hanging out on the couch, taking a stroll around the neighborhood, or just sitting in the yard enjoying the sunshine, Champion is the kind of dog who will be right there with you, soaking it all in with the happiest little tail wag you have ever seen.

His favorite things include getting belly rubs, curling up for naps, and giving you those big soulful eyes that say thank you every single time. Champion does not ask for much. Just a comfy spot, a few tasty treats, and someone to love him back as much as he loves them.

If you have been searching for a forever friend who will always cheer you on, never let you feel alone, and greet you like a rock star every time you walk through the door, Champion is ready to take that victory lap straight into your heart.

More about this shelter

The Humane Society of South Mississippi (HSSM) is the largest animal welfare organization in the state of Mississippi. HSSM’s facility was built using the nation’s leading Children’s Museums as models, with bright colors and oversized architectural sculptures. We offer: pet adoptions, foster program, return-to-owner efforts, spay/neuter and wellness services, volunteer program, pet transports, youth initiatives, a food pantry and pet retention program, an on-site thrift store, and more! In 2024, HSSM cared for over 5,000 homeless pets in house and touched over 16,000 animals in the community.

Since our incorporation in 1952, HSSM has been committed to ending pet overpopulation on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. HSSM is the only Open Admissions Animal Shelter in South Mississippi, meaning we accept all animals in need, regardless of age, breed, health, or temperament. This commitment ensures that no lost pet is turned away. Oftentimes our open-admissions status in a community with a disproportionately high number of homeless pets leads to needless euthanasia of adoptable pets in our shelter HSSM has vowed to change this.
