My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Buddy & Obi — Two Sweet Brothers Looking for Their Forever Home
Buddy (Brown and White) and Obi (Black and White) are a pair of 4-year-old littermates whose lives turned upside down last June when they were left at the shelter by owners who said they no longer had time for them. But these boys never stopped loving, trusting, or trying — and now they’re ready for the loving home they’ve always deserved.
Both Buddy and Obi are vision-impaired, but don’t let that fool you — they get around wonderfully and have adapted with resilience, courage, and a whole lot of heart.
Obi’s Story
When Obi arrived at the shelter, he was heartbreakingly underweight. His former owners reported he’d been losing weight for six months — without ever receiving medical care. Boston Buddies immediately stepped in, got him to a veterinary internist, and ran bloodwork and an ultrasound. Obi was diagnosed with Irritable Bowel Disease (IBD) and Protein-Losing Enteropathy (PLE).
The vet recommended starting with a prescription hydrolyzed diet — and it worked like magic. Obi has thrived. He’s gained weight – he now weighs 29 lbs. which is MORE than Buddy who weighs in at 27 lbs.- , filled out beautifully, and is finally healthy and comfortable. He will need to remain on this special diet, but it’s truly been life-changing for him.
Both boys eat the same diet to keep things simple (and to prevent Obi from sneaking Buddy’s food — trust us, he would!). Obi now has energy, softness to his body, and no more hip bones sticking out. His foster family has done wonders, and he’s ready for the next chapter.
Their Personalities
These boys are truly the sweetest. They adore people — especially kids — and warm up quickly. They love to wrestle, play, snuggle, and explore. Despite their vision challenges, they adjust to new spaces surprisingly well. They’re potty trained, use a doggy door independently, and are very food-motivated (Obi might just be the fastest eater on planet Earth).
Their vision impairment does mean they can be startled by loud noises like trash trucks, leaf blowers, or loud cars. When scared, they may freeze or sit down, especially Buddy. Walks are still one of their favorite activities — they just need a patient, understanding human to reassure them.
A home without stairs is best, as they can manage a few with guidance but not independently.
When meeting new people, they can get excited and a bit jumpy — not out of rudeness, but because they’re trying to “feel out” who’s there when they can’t fully see.
A Little About Each Boy
✨ Obi
• goofy, carefree, and slightly clumsy
• loves being outside
• professional grass roller
• navigates the world beautifully with his nose
• vision is more impaired than Buddy’s
• bumps into things sometimes — but just shakes it off and keeps going
Think of Obi as the goofy, lovable teen brother who always keeps things light.
✨ Buddy
• loves toys and bones
• insists on peeing on every tree during walks
• your punctual “meal time” reminder
• more cautious and thoughtful
• sometimes has anxiety-related accidents, but they’re infrequent and come in phases
Buddy is the charming, slightly grumpy “old man” of the duo — even though he’s only 4.
Most important of all: Buddy and Obi are deeply bonded.
They find comfort, confidence, and joy in each other, so they must be adopted together. They are ready for a calm, loving home that understands their needs, celebrates their quirks, and cherishes them as they deserve.

The first step in adopting a Boston Buddy is to submit an Adoption Application which can be downloaded at our website, www.bostonbuddies.org. After a home visit with one of our volunteers and approval of the Application we will arrange meetings with dogs that will be compatible with the approved adopter. An Adoption Application and Adoption Fee is required, as well as follow up visits.

More about this rescue

Boston Buddies is a recognized 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to rescuing Boston Terriers who are abandoned, neglected or abused and placing them in permanent, loving homes. Our ultimate purpose is to match homeless or potentially homeless Boston Terriers with loving, permanent families specifically interested in the breed. We do not have a brick and mortar kennel facility. Instead, we provide our rescue dogs with temporary foster care in private homes located throughout Southern California where we can assess their personality and preferences. All of our dogs are examined by a vet and provided all necessary medical treatment, vaccinated, spayed or neutered and put on heartworm preventative.

Boston Buddies is always looking for volunteers to help with shelter checks, transport and foster home care. We invite you to visit our website – www.bostonbuddies.org
