Ryker first joined us February 2024 when he was surrendered because his original owner got bored and left him with her grandmother. He was soon adopted by a family, and they had him for a year. Unfortunately, he became increasingly anxious around their children and they were worried about his safety and his happiness. So Ryker is back at the shelter a second time. We are searching for a quiet, child-free home for him where he can sit back, relax, and bond closely with 1-2 calm and accepting adults.
Ryker is decent on a leash and very dog friendly. He does well with male and female dogs of any size and energy level. With his familiar people, he is goofy, cuddly, and leans into scritches like a cat does. He was described as both independent and needy - he can be separation anxiety prone, but he also enjoys exploring and sniffing around. In just a few minutes of interaction, it's clear that he's a very intelligent dog. He knows quite a few tricks and commands, and he's super food motivated so is happy to show them off in payment for a treat or two!
Said his most recent owner, "He loves his person but only one (maybe two) adults only. He has a gentle spirit and is afraid of most things. He is independent but trained, even to roll over. He's easy to love but doesn't love everyone back."
We know that the perfect person is out there for this sweet, mild mannered, adorable boy.

Interview
If you submitted an online app, staff will contact you for a phone or email conversation or to schedule an in-person convo at the shelter.

During our m&g's, we ensure that any questions are answered and that the animal of interest matches what the applicant is looking for.

Assuming all goes well during the m&g phase, your application will be approved and you will be cleared to adopt!

If you are interested in one of our adoptable pets, you can visit the the Adoption Center and fill out a paper application, fill out our application online from our website, or submit a request to receive one by email. Once your application has been reviewed and approved, you are welcome to come by the center during our open hours for a meet-and-greet! We also ask that our dog applicants who have dogs of their own bring their current dog/s for a meet-and-greet with the potential new family member as well.
If the animal you are interested in has no other applications in and FFAA staff feel that you are a good fit, approved applicants may finalize the adoption the same day!
