Give a warm welcome to Bernie! He was previously known as Danny at our shelter, but the folks who took him home found he liked the name Bernie much more. This guy is no slouch, as he`s incredibly fast, agile, and incredibly intelligent, and he needs to find a home who`s able to keep up with his antics. Since he`s still young, he`s still learning how to handle all that energy and playfulness bottled up inside of him. Ideally, he should go into a home that doesn`t have any cats that aren`t prepared to be chased around for playtime, or have him bounce on top of where they`re hiding! Bernie needs playmates that can match his energy.
He is truly an excellent dog who`s excellent with younger kids and other dogs. He was doing well at obedience school during his short time in a home, and would enjoy picking up where he left off in his classes. He loves having a wide space to run, jump, and hunt in, and has a preference for sticks and playing tug-of-war. We are offering adoptions at our shelter from 12 noon - 6 p.m. daily. Our dog and cat adoption areas are open for walk-throughs every day. Adopters must be at least 18 years of age, have a valid driver's license or government-issued ID, provide payment, and be required to sign the adoption contract.
We cannot finalize adoptions over the phone or online. This is a family decision; everyone in the adopter’s household is encouraged to meet the animal at the shelter. The actual adoption visit takes place in designated areas and typically lasts 10-15 minutes. During this time, you will be able to spend some quality time getting to know the animal and deciding if they are a match for your home. At the end of the visit, if it’s a match, GREAT! In keeping with the desire to limit visits, our expectations are that you are prepared to take the animal home the same day. If you are interested in adopting a dog, and you have a dog (or dogs) at home, they must successfully meet each other before completing the adoption.
