My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Maggie was found abandoned in an empty apartment after the tenant moved out. Fortunately her cries were heard by a good samaritan who was able to bring her in to 4Paws.

She is very sweet and likes to be petted. She is playing with a plastic ball and also likes catnip toys, especially the catnip banana. She likes to hang out with her foster mom, very often just sitting on the desk watching (that is, supervising) her use the computer. She also "helps" in the home office by sleeping on top of a stack of files to keep them warm while mom is trying to work on them, and head-butting her mom's hand when she's trying to write something just to be sure the handwriting comes out crooked.

She has become integrated with the resident cats in her foster home. She's living in harmony with them though at this point, which is still early in their relationship, she has not shown inclination to become best buddies with any of them. She will snooze on the sofa just a couple feet away from another cat but hasn't snuggled up together. Being a little princess, at mealtime she prefers not to eat with the riff-raff (the other cats). Foster mom places her food and water bowls a distance away from the rest of the gang.

She is accustomed to a high-sided litter box with unscented litter (World's Best corn litter) and twice daily feedings of juicy Fancy Feast. Her favorite appears to be the Chicken Pate with Gravy. She has 24/7 access to a high quality chicken based kibble (Purina Pro Plan Vital Systems chicken-and-egg).

The vet estimated she was born in December 2024. She is spayed, vaccinated, tested negative for FiV/FeLV, and has been micro chipped.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

At the adoption fairs, if you meet a kitten or cat that you want to adopt, you will be asked to complete an application and contract and leave a check for the adoption fee ($120 for an adult or $145 for un-neutered kitten of which $50 is a deposit that is refunded after you provide 4Paws proof of sterilization). We ask that you pay the adoption fee up front at the fairs in order to “put a hold” on the cat until your application is processed. If your application is not approved, your check is returned to you.

Neither cats nor kittens are sent to their new homes on the day of the fair. It usually takes 4-5 days to process the application before the cat can go to his or her adoptive home. Pre-approval is an option, though. To accelerate the adoption process, you can fax a completed application and contract to us at 703-560-9795 a few days before the fair. Adoption Applications are available on this website.

Go meet their pets

Adoption fairs are held once or twice a month at various PETCO stores in Northern Virginia. The adoption fairs are usually held on Saturday’s from 1:00 to 5:00. Between 30 and 60 cats and kittens are shown for adoption at each fair—with the larger fairs generally occurring April through October.

While they are waiting to find permanent loving homes, our cats temporarily live in foster homes. The foster families bring the cats and kittens to the adoption fairs to be seen by potential adopters. Applicants have the opportunity to handle the cats and in some cases, meet the foster parents who can provide additional insight into a cat’s habits and personality.
