My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

`I Yam what I am.` -Yam
This adorable little side dish is 16lbs or beautiful, terrier goodness! She has a looong body, and short, muscly little legs. She also has the softest coat, that will require grooming on occasion. Yam can be very shy at a first meeting, and may not let you pet her right away, so it may take her some time to be comfortable with you. But she is very gentle natured, and once she is comfortable, she likes to play a light game of fetch, and will give you kisses on your hands. The home that adopts Yam will be getting one great little sweet potato!

Yam is at our Cottonwood Mall location!

More about this shelter

Our shelter had it's beginnings in the mid 90's and formally became a nonprofit organization in 2001. The dream of Lee and Sophia DiClemente has grown to be the largest no-kill animal shelter in New Mexico. Lee passed in 2010, but Sophia carries on with the support of a small staff, a large number of volunteers, and numerous donors - large and small.
