My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Being alone in the world calls for courage. My name, Archie, means “truly brave.” I wasn’t really alone. I was one of four tiny kittens who weighed less than a pound when our mother was hit by a car. After we were brought to the shelter, we went to a foster home. So, we were never alone. We were cared for. After a few days, we were doing well with our bottle feeding, and we loved that. Eventually we did eat kitten food. We liked playing with the dog in the home. We were fearless! There were a lot of foster kittens in that home, so another foster mom agreed to take us. We did quite well there too. She has a big dog and an adult cat, and we got along well with them. There were other foster kittens there, and we liked them too. Like my brothers and sister, I am an extremely friendly kitten who starts to purr the second you touch me. I love to be held. Each of us loves to play and is quite self-confident. One of our favorite activities was lying on the back of the couch where we could watch birds at the window feeder. I’m a sweet, fun-loving boy who will be a wonderful addition to a family. I’ll be excited to go home to be your Archie boy. I will be staying in my foster home a while longer, so if you are interested in adopting me, please apply for me on the Paws and Claws Website or contact the shelter to set up a time to meet me.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

Paws and Claws Humane Society (PCHS) is a non-profit, mostly volunteer organization that rescues and shelters homeless cats and dogs until they can be adopted into their “forever” homes. We want our clients to understand that adopting and animal is a lifetime responsibility and commitment to that animal.

All prospective adopters must show (at the time of adoption) a valid drivers license or other acceptable identification to verify their name, address, and age. Adopters must be 18 yrs of age. Children under the age of 12 years old need to be present at time of viewing shelter cats or dogs.

After submitting an application, there is generally a processing period of 1-3 days in order to complete all pre-adoption checks and paperwork before an adopter may take possession of the animal.

More about this rescue

Paws and Claws Humane Society is committed to partnering with the community to shelter, protect, and seek adoptive homes for abandoned or lost companion animals.

We have served Southern Minnesota for over 30 years and we are the largest shelter in the 8 surrounding counties that does not limit the length of stay for the animals in its care.

Paws & Claws is funded completely on donations and fundraising events and receives no federal, state, county or city funds. We currently have nearly 900 dues paying members.

Paws & Claws has a community fund to help pay for the spaying and neutering of companion animals for those who cannot afford it.

We give over 40 tours and presentations annually, educating the public [including over 400 children] about proper animal care and the importance of spaying and neutering companion animals to help control the pet population in Southern Minnesota.

We have over 110 families that participate in the Guardian Angel Program [sponsoring animals] each month.

Paws & Claws will take in an injured animal and get the emergency medical care that it requires.

Local veterinarians in and around Rochester help Paws & Claws by providing over 145 free spay or neuters each year.

In a typical year the shelter will facilitate adoptions and provide care for over 600 dogs and cats.
