Their adoption process

We review your application thoroughly, verify references, and confirm your housing details to ensure a safe placement.

If approved, we’ll contact you with next steps and move forward in the process with a scheduled consultation.

On take-home day, you’ll receive decompression guidance and support materials to ease the transition.

After adoption, we follow up to ensure success and offer training referrals through our partner, K9netic Pack.

Adoption steps

  1. Submit Application
    1. To begin, you’ll complete our detailed online application so we can match you with a dog suited to your lifestyle and experience.
  2. Interview
    1. A phone consultation is conducted to discuss expectations, training needs, decompression, and the dog’s behavior.
  3. Meet the Pet
    1. Next, a meet-and-greet is arranged—some dogs may require multiple sessions to build trust and assess compatibility.
  4. Home Check
    1. We then complete a home visit, in person or virtual, to ensure the dog’s environment is safe, clean, and secure.
  5. Sign Adoption Contract
    1. Once approved, you’ll sign the adoption contract and receive the dog’s medical history, training notes, and care plan.
  6. Pay Fee
    1. Your adoption fee includes all veterinary care, a microchip, spay/neuter, and a 6-month Fi GPS collar activation.
  7. Take the Pet Home
    1. On take-home day, you’ll receive decompression guidance and support materials to ease the transition.

Go meet their pets

The Underdog Division operates primarily by appointment to ensure each meet-and-greet is calm, structured, and tailored to the dog’s needs. We do not maintain public kennel hours, as many of our dogs are undergoing training, medical recovery, or behavior decompression.

Meetings typically take place at our shared facility in Poolesville, MD, or at approved partner locations across the DMV region. We also host adoption events and pack walks in collaboration with local businesses and pet supply stores—follow us on social media for upcoming event dates!

Once your application is approved, we’ll schedule a one-on-one meet and greet to introduce you to potential matches in a low-stress environment. This helps our dogs—and you—put your best paw forward.

All meet-and-greets are by appointment only. To get started, apply online today and a team member will be in touch.

More about this rescue

The Underdog Division, Inc. is a purpose-driven, grassroots rescue and rehabilitation initiative committed to giving second chances to the dogs most often overlooked—those impacted by behavior challenges, breed stigma, or a history of neglect. Founded by a team of seasoned dog trainers, animal advocates, and community organizers, our mission is simple but powerful: Rescue, Rebuild, Rehome.

We specialize in behavior-focused rehabilitation, structured decompression, and proactive adopter education to set each dog up for long-term success. Our focus isn’t on high-volume turnover—we prioritize quality placements and individualized care. From court-case survivors to dogs labeled “unadoptable,” we believe every underdog deserves to be seen, supported, and set up to thrive.

As the nonprofit arm of K9netic Pack, we are powered by professional trainers, compassionate volunteers, and a commitment to excellence in animal care. We operate out of Poolesville, MD and serve the greater DMV region. While small in size, we’re mighty in impact—placing dogs not just into homes, but into lives ready to lead with patience and purpose.

We rely on the generosity of our community to sustain our mission. Donations fuel our medical care, enrichment supplies, and training programs. Volunteers extend our reach and amplify our impact. Whether you donate, adopt, foster, or simply share our story—you’re helping rewrite the future for an underdog.
