My personality

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

YOUNG AUSTRALIAN SHEPHERD AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION!

Meet Anakin, a sensitive, intelligent young Australian Shepherd with a heart as soft as his fluffy coat. Anakin is looking for a calm, predictable home where he can feel safe, understood, and loved at his own pace.

Born in March 2024 and weighing about 37 pounds, Anakin is bright, eager to learn, and deeply loyal, but he’s also an anxious guy who can become overwhelmed by loud noises, fast movements, and chaotic environments. Because of this, he’ll thrive best in a home without children. Anakin absolutely loves being with other dogs, though, and this has shown to be a positive influence on him—and he’s also amazing with cats! Shy when meeting new people, especially men, Anakin needs adults who understand his need for gentle handling, patience, and positive reinforcement.

Once he feels comfortable, Anakin’s personality truly shines—he’s playful, affectionate, and loves bonding through training games, lots of walks (he LOVES his walks!), and one-on-one time. He would be a wonderful match for someone who appreciates the Aussie Shepherd’s active mind but also wants a companion who enjoys peaceful moments just as much.

Anakin’s ideal home would provide a calm, structured environment in an adults-only household with another dog. He will thrive with daily mental enrichment and steady routines. Someone experienced with herding breeds and a secure yard or safe space for exploring would be an asset.

If you’re ready to earn the trust of a gentle soul and help him blossom, Anakin is waiting for his forever person. If you think you could be the one, please complete an adoption questionnaire on our website at www.kikodogrescue.ca. We are active in the Greater Montreal and Eastern Ontario areas, and are also open to applicants from elsewhere willing to drive to us.

Additional adoption info

If you are interested in adopting a Kiko dog, please e-mail us. You will be asked to complete an adoption application so that we can get to know you better. A home visit is also mandatory, often with the dog that interests you. Our adoption fee is $650 for adult dogs and $750 for puppies under a year old, and all our dogs are examined by a veterinarian, defleaed, dewormed*, vaccinated, sterilized and also tested for heartworm and lyme disease. *Please note that puppies adopted at a young age may require ongoing deworming for up to six months. Although this is a relatively inexpensive treatment, Kiko is unable to cover this and will only take care of deworming while the puppy is under the care of the rescue.

More about this rescue

Kiko Dog Rescue and Adoptions is a small non-profit rescue group located west of Montreal near the Quebec/Ontario border and is named after a little black Pug rescued from a puppy mill. We are dedicated to helping dogs that have found themselves homeless, whether they are from a pound, puppy mill or a home surrender, by placing them in the loving forever homes they so deserve. All dogs that come into our rescue receive whatever veterinary care they require, including everything from dentistry to surgery to help correct an uncomfortable or painful medical condition. In many cases, the adoption fee is not enough to cover a dog's vet bill. If you would like to help us by making a donation towards our vet bill, please click on the Paypal button. Thank you!

Our dogs are not kept at a shelter. We rely on the generosity of foster families. If you are not ready for a permanent adoption and would like to consider fostering on a temporary basis, please contact us for more information. Food and veterinary care is provided by Kiko—all you need to provide is a warm loving haven.
